Straight from the dungeons of L.A., Wavves are release Afraid Of Heights, their fourth album and first on the Mom + Pop and Warner Bros. labels. Now a duo consisting of guitarist Nathan Williams and bassist Stephen Pope, they sound bigger, brasher, and shockingly more professional than ever on Afraid Of Heights which positions the band to take their rightful place amongst the pop-punk gods. The product of more than a year of writing and recording, Afraid Of Heights expands the Wavves sound while remaining true to the band's original vision - it was created with absolutely no label involvement, a specter that nearly derailed King Of The Beach. Working with producer John Hill (known for his work with M.I.A. and Santigold, as well as with hip-hop acts such as Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan), the band found a willing party in creating what they felt was the truest expression of what they wanted. As for the Afraid Of Heights sessions themselves, Williams paid for them out-of-pocket, explaining his reasoning with, "In doing so, I had no one to answer to. We recorded the songs how and when we wanted without anybody interfering, and that's how it's supposed to be. "

Ignore the established music press a fabulous album
Surprise, surprise the music press (allmusic, pitchfork et al) have got it all wrong. This is the Wavves at their best and most consistent. The album is a rollicking ride of surf/pop/rock that will in times to come be embraced the music press as a high watermark for the band. From start to finish the album is very enjoyable and has smatterings of laugh out lyrics to counterpoint the sometimes darksubject matter of the songs. Sometimes when an album is highly anticipated it can be a disappointment but that is not the case hear. So ignore the pointless criticism of the press which usually runs along the lines of the album is not a progression for the band and then hammer all the songs that are slightly different as the low points of the album. Afraid of Heights delivers in all respects and is progression for the band but they haven't lost what made you like them in the first place. An excellent album, what more could you ask for?

Excellent album. Excellent customer service.
I never buy music I haven't heard already. This is my way of supporting artists I like. So who writes music reviews for this place? What we as customers want to know is how long did it take to get to my house, what condition, and how much did it cost. I ordered this last Saturday and it arrived the following Wednesday . I have never gotten a package this fast in my life and that's with a postal holiday which was Columbus day. The CD was flawless no marks, and was meticulously packaged so it would arrive with a cracked case or something. I have had cases arrive cracked many times because of rough handling. The vendor had the best deal compared to others and had shipped it the same day. Impressive.

Noisy, poppy, druggy
As expected, the new Wavves is pretty good, a little more accessible than previous releases, reminds me a bit of Modest Mouse right before they had their big break. The notion of Wavves becoming popular seems equally unlikely, but the thought of these guys knocking Taylor Swift out of Number One is pretty awesome.

Soundtrack to my life.
This album is on heavy rotation on our downstairs turntable. Lots of energy. Great to have on in the background at home. Great to have the CD for road trips. Great to have it on my phone for the gym. Great to blast it so I can hear it in the shower.

Solid album, but may not be making waves
Good album, what you'd expect from Wavves. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a great sound. Only reason I'm not giving a 5 is because it doesn't seem like they tried anything new or different.

Good Alt Rock Band
Overall a good album, never heard of these guys before, but worth the money. Have listened to it a dozen times and still like it.

Nirvanaish
This guys were inspired by Nirvana. Not even the Foo Fighters sound like old Nirvana so its cool somebody keeping that old grunge sound alive.

Good stuff
This album seems to have been missed in 2013 which is a shame as it's really really good. Pop hooks welded onto punk/rock/indie. The lyrics aren't up to much but the whole thing is severely catchy. Think Nirvana/Pixies/Undertone type of deal. Yes!

Sono dei matti.
Questo album credo che sia migliore di quello passato...Le sonoritร sono sempre sporche, stile che li ha sempre contraddistinti.Voto? 9/10
