It's a simple concept, but as the playing skills develop, the games can become longer and more complicated as each player thinks further ahead and thinks about "what if" senarios. 5-20 minutes per game is common. Anyone, children or adults, who can manage a game of "Connect4" or Draughts, will be able to pick up the game quickly. It's then up to them, how much strategy they want to develop. With a similar experienced player, we have had games lasting an hour or more, and developed our own new additional rules to throw in every now and then to make the game trickier - such as not allowing the corner positions of the board to be used as part of the line of 4, or allowing a square of 4 instead of only a line of 4.
