The Alchemyst

I'm a fussy fantasy reader. Nothing short of GOT, Watership Down, Lion Witch Wardrobe, Last Unicorn etc. No YA dragon school stuff for me. Not quite Tolkien, but this series has been a delight and I am ordering the 3rd book. Characters well-developed, a little good vs evil (with twists), plenty of creatures plus just a bit of magic here and there. I am thoroughly enjoying this.

I loved this story so much. I am still bewildered at how this isn't more popular. if you are of age 8-14, this book gets my highest recommendations. if you liked the Percy Jackson books, you NEED this. this book by itself is better than most books I have ever read. and every book gets better.the 5th book, the warlock, is the best book I have ever read.

This is a great series to read for yourself or to young readers. I read this to my students (ages 10 - 12) and they love it. It’s educational because there are characters from history as well as mythology. The narrative can lead to lots of discussions and research projects. The series gets better as it continues!
