I leave it "ON" all the time. I have a little fairy garden that I keep set up March to Oct. Last year I kept 4 of my houses up on my porch and packed the rest away. What I found was the ones packed away often had to have the batteries replaced. The ones I kept on the porch never went out. Still using the same battery
