Classic Oldie Set
My mom loves oldies, what can I say. With this 2 CD collection, she has hours of music to keep her accompanied while she tends to her chickens and plants in the backyard.

The early years before Save the last dance for me
The history of the Drifters is long and complicated, but this compilation focuses on the period from 1953 to 1958.Clyde McPhatter was the lead singer of Billy Ward and the Dominoes when he decided to break away and form his own group in 1953. He was only with them for about a year when he was called up to serve the Army. During his time with the Drifters, they had several American R+B hits including Money honey (#1), Honey love (#1) and White Christmas (#5). The latter has become a Christmas classic, providing a striking contrast with the original Bing Crosby version.During Clyde's time in the Army, he decided that he would go solo upon release. In that capacity he had success with hits including A lover's question (perhaps the one that is best remembered in America) and Lover please (which became a UK hit via a cover by the Vernon Girls). However, Clyde's solo music is not featured here.Jasmine list nine different men who were Drifters at one time or another between 1953 and 1958. I think there were more than that, but these nine were the ones that performed on the music included here.Apart from Clyde, the most significant member was Johnny Moore who also spent about a year with the Drifters before being called up to serve the Army. He would return in 1962 and stay with the Drifters through all their remaining hits and well beyond. In the fifties, Johnny Moore was the lead singer on the #1 R+B hit Adorable. With Clyde gone, the group's manager acquired the rights to the name and eventually sacked the existing members in 1958. He replaced them with a group called the Crowns, renaming them the Drifters. Their lead singer was Ben E King, who was himself influenced by Clyde McPhatter. The recordings by those Drifters are to be found elsewhere. This compilation contains all the hits the Drifters had between 1953 and 1958 plus much else besides. I'm surprised that Jasmine managed to fill a double CD with so much good music from this period in the Drifters history, even including some tracks where some of the Drifters became a backing group for Ruth Brown. This is a magnificent collection, but the music here is noticeably different from what the later Drifters recorded.

THE ORIGINAL DRIFTERS 1953-1958
エルヴィスのカヴァーでも有名な"MONEY HONEY"や"SUCH A NIGHT"は納得のさすがはオリジナルという出来栄えですし、ラテン・アレンジが光る"HONEY LOVE"、クリスマスのスタンダードからドゥ・ワップ・クリスマスのスタンダードとなった"WHITE CHRISTMAS"と"BELLS OF ST.MARY'S"の熱唱、アップ・テンポのブギ・ウギ"LET THE BOGGIE WOOGIE ROLL"、心躍るジャンプ・ナンバーの"FOOLS FALL IN LOVE"、そして"ADORABLE"、"RUBY BABY"、"DRIP DROP"、"NO SWEET LOVIN'"などを聴けば凄さが分かります。黒人音楽の名門、アトランティック・レーベルを初期から支えたグループの看板に偽りはありません。

Drifters gem
Well I got this little gem by mistake .... I thought I'd ordered the songs I was more familiar with ie ... ( up on the roof, and under the broad walk) I didn't read it properly but this is in my favour as I have some of their great music I would not have ever listened to had I not made this mistake 😃 YO
