Whirley-Pop Stovetop + 20 Popcorn Kits

There are two parts to this review: one is the popper itself, the other, the popcorn packs. The popper is good not great. Oil spatters out of the vents and holes in the lid and lands on your hand that's holding the wooden handle while you crank. The popper is very light so if you put any pressure on the handle it tips up and it moves around a lot as you crank. On the plus side, it does make good popcorn and pops almost all of the kernels. As far as the popcorn packs, you're better off buying your own popcorn and oil. They're expensive, use a lot of plastic that is not recyclable, and the "sweet and salty kettle corn" contains no salt. How is it sweet and salty without the "and salty?" The kettle corn also makes a mess in the popper that is difficult to clean. The packs also don't have an easy way to open them so you have to cut them with scissors. Last, they use a very fatty oil like at the movies. tastes good, sure, but you're better off using your own or at least using less of what they provide and supplementing with better oils, if needed.

I purchased this for Christmas last year. My family uses it all the time. My daughter's love the kettle korn and the pre-pakaged/measured kits are so easy to use. It doesn't take much longer than microwave popcorn but tastes so much better. We've just recently tried it with loose kernals & popping oil, which works OK, but I prefer the pre-packaged kits since they are so much easier.
