Fantastic For Teaching Math Skills
I am a special education teacher who not only supports all high school subjects in a girls' high school, but I also teach self-contained classes when students cannot attend a mainstream class. I have several of these students right now, and teach a 2 student modified self-contained practical math class. We are presently working on the many different aspects of fractions and have already gone through equations, so this game seemed like a perfect way to reinforce what my students were learning and to also let them have a little fun in the learning process as well. The game is a hit! It not only has whole numbers, but fractions as well and my students work very hard, with an assist from me, to use those fractions, a difficult thing for them because of their learning disabilities. After we do our work for the day, we play a game of Equate, keeping score and learning even more. I join in on the game as well, which my students like very much. I do have to help them from time to time because they don't always see the possibilities, but all in all, it's a confidence-building game and my students are learning a lot from it. I recommend this game for anyone at all, not just students with learning disabilities. It's challenging and interesting. I also suggest it for home-schooling as a reinforcement for what is being taught. Great game and well worth the money spent on it.

A great learning tool/game for anyone struggling with math
This game is amazing. It combines the love of numbers and math into a fun game. We use this as one of our many family game night games, and the kids love it. We bought the basic kit which is perfect for our kids. Even though I wish there was a simplier version for smaller/younger kids. Overall, my sixth grader loves playing this game. She has loads of fun playing this game, and will actually request playing this game on a daily basis. She's having fun and learning at the same time. Overall, I would rate this game as a must have for anyone whether "just for fun" or as a learning tool, whether it be for homeschool or as some additional practice for math. A great learning tool for any kid struggling with math.

Fun and challenging brainy game!
My son (9yo) and I love to play this together. It is sometimes challenging to come up with a good use of your tiles, but this in turn forces you to explore your knowledge of math a little deeper. My son is able to make equations with relative ease and learns how to increase his scores from examining the more complex equations that I am able to employ. I don't recommend this if you do not enjoy math or numbers and their applications...

math scrabble!
This game is awesome! As a college math student, I really enjoyed playing this with my peers. It is exactly like scrabble but with elementary math.I think it could be improved by adding more advanced tiles (there is an expansion pack for that it seems, so can't dock a star) and a better scoring system. The way it is, some fraction pieces are worth too much. I can use all my tiles across multiple bonuses, with basic tiles, and it will be worth half of a four tile equation with a good fraction (like 1/6). But still fun. Just beware you score a lot higher in this then scrabble (I got over 400), and come backs happen! In one game, I was winning by about 200 points when my opponent got some good fractions and came back, final score was 437 to 430 or there abouts.Fun.

Okay game, but 'feels' to much like Math problems
May be a bit too much for my 3rd grade grandchild. We did simplify it, by changing up the rules a bit, but it felt too much like "school" - It may be better to wait till they are older.

this game is like Scrabble with numbers
First, this game is like Scrabble with numbers. We got this game for our first grade granddaughter, who said she likes math. We figured that we could play with her just using the addition and subtraction functions. Her reaction was sort of "meh." I think she will get to like it. But our second-grade grandson loved it! He can do the multiplication and division with whole numbers, so we took out the fraction pieces. He couldn't get enough of it. One recommendation though, if you are not using the fractions, but using all the functions, take out about three of each function piece (+, -. x, /) or you will end up with too many function pieces and not enough numbers. It is flimsier than the old Scrabble games, but everything today is. We played with either two players or two teams, to make the game go faster.

Disappointing
I read all the reviews and thought this would be a great game for my daughters and me. We all like Scrabble and have a strong math aptitude. Well, this game disappointed us in several ways: the instruction book is way too long and complicated to follow, the tiles are not nice wood tiles like Scrabble, and most important, we abandoned the game after 15 minutes because it wasn't very fun. On a friend's recommendation, I purchased Krypto, which is similar in concept but it is a card game. It has a short 1 page instruction sheet and it was fun off the bat while still being challenging and educational, and significantly cheaper.Original Krypto: Family Arithmetic Game
