I have had my poles a couple of months. We live in a rural area and most of my experience with the Swix poles comes from walks across our property along a small stream and up and down its banks.I have been a long time user of "walking sticks" from my first hand cut wooden ones to the telescoping aluminum purchased ones. A staff helps me cross obstacles and keep my footing. Two work even better. These carbon fiber poles are very light and beg to be used.•The straps fit so securely you find you do not need to actually grip the poles.•An unexpected benefit is the use of two poles makes nighttime walks much more secure.•Poles effectively convert the user from a biped to a quadruped.I read the instructions and watched the video. My best advice is to ignore all that and just use the poles intuitively.Update 19 May 2015--Still impressed with these poles. I prefer the simplicity of these to adjustable ones. No way they will collapse, nothing to lose. Durable!Update 2 8 Dec 2016--Still going strong. Seems recently I've been using only one at a time, but dual poles are still ideal.Update 3 June 2017. If you desire to use only one pole, or if you want to switch hand to hand, easily done. If you turn the "glove" inside out, it fits the other hand.

Frankly I am "lucky" I can walk at all because part of my spine was shattered when a hit and run driver plowed into me. Anyway, the doc fixed me up pretty good considering, but walking is no longer easy or fun. Since the accident I have at times kind of given up, but then I tell myself ya gotta try to keep moving, hence the poles. I tried them out on the sidewalk but didn't enjoy the experience. They sat in the hallway for quite awhile, but finally I picked them up and went to a local park. I took the rubber tips off as directed and started walking on the uneven and somewhat hilly terrain. It was fun! I enjoyed a cool breeze while I sat for a minute to rest and watch the ducks below in the pond. You may like them on concrete, if not do as i did and head for the hills, or at least a grassy area. It is a fun way to exercise and you don't have to have mobility issues to enjoy the outdoors with Swix Carbon Fiber Nordic Walking Fitness Poles.
