Universal Truths: I'm not the only one . . .
For everyone who thinks she's the only one who ever experienced something, here's a look at some pretty universal emotional and intellectual reactions on the road to womanhood. It will make women remember where they come from and whom they really are, and for the child they share it with, it will help her know she's not the only one who ever had questions and wise opinions that adults just don't get or have forgotten. I saw my young self in many of these diary pages, though in many cases under somewhat dissimilar circumstances. It was a pleasure to read and a great way to reconnect to the sisterhood called "growing-up female" that helps the generations understand each other.

The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything) Review
What a fun read and it's so real. It takes me back to my own youth - how she questions what's "fair," "mean," and what true "love" means to a tween. Dr. Holstein's insight into the mind of a young girl is accurate, touching and honest. I'd recommend it for both girls and their parents as a way to begin a discussion, a time to truly listen to one another. Although there are no references to the current "texting" craze, this book is timeless as it truly represents the concerns, joys, fears and uncertainties of budding adolescence. If you've got a pre-adolescent daughter, this is the book you should read.

Don't believe all the 5 star reviews !!!
I have to tell you - after reading all the 5 star reviews, I thought 'I need to order this for my 12 year old' WRONG !! I gave her this book, and a short time after she came to me very upset and distraught, wondering why I would give her such trash to read ! I began to look at the book thoroughly, and have to agree. She said, 'who thinks like this ?' I don't know of any girls in that age category who are gaga over guys, obsessed with having a boy friend, etc. I guess if you don't mind your child reading things such as (p.40 for instance) "I still watch Paul all the time. I am still sure this is love. I imagine us together, swimming naked in a pool and then hugging and kissing...'Sorry but not all girls in this age category care to read dumbed down books. Totally inappropriate. My daughter was really upset and wants to send this book back to amazon for a refund, I have to agree. Don't believe all the hype here - there are PLENTY of high quality books that deal with growing up. Save your money, and do your research before buying this trash.

High Interest Book fo Pre-Teen
My ten year old granddaughter loves books divided into short chunks--not so overwhelming. Between the format and the topics, this book totally engaged her interest. She called to tell me that she had finished it in less than 3 hours. The boost to her self-esteem when it comes to reading was a priceless gift. The subsequent discussions with her parents were a bonus.
