This plus an SSD makes my old MacBook run like a brand new computer
When I started to fill up my MacBook's hard drive, I decided to remove the optical drive and replace it with a new SSD. When I started researching the parts, I found that several companies that cater to Mac systems sold these brackets, but like everything Mac, they were rather expensive. This one was considerably cheaper. I figured that, if it didn't work, I wouldn't be out that much, so I bought it and installed it. It's been working great for around nine months now and running the old 2012 MacBook off an SSD makes it feel like a brand new computer. This particular bracket comes with a screw driver, which I thought was interesting, especially considering that you need at least one other specialty screwdriver (a Torx driver, if I remember correctly) to get everything apart to get the original optical drive out. It's not too difficult to do this upgrade...if you're comfortable taking apart a computer, including disconnecting several connections on the mainboard while you do it, it'll take about an hour to complete, and there are several tutorials online to show you exactly what to do.

This INTERNAL ADAPTER works well for my second SSD in my mid 2011 15" MacBook Pro
First of all, this device is not an external enclosure, as the title suggests. It is an internal adapter to replace the internal CD drive with an SSD or HD. The title is misleading, but it should be pretty obvious for everybody who isn't visually impaired. I suggest the seller my fix the title. After years of normal use, plus burning over 1000 CD-Rs, the internal CD drive of my MacBook Pro developed serious mechanical issues. So I started using an external CD drive I had sitting around. As my first SSD, which I replaced the internal HD with, ran out of space, I bought this adapter to use the space of the obsolete/broken CD drive to add a second SSD. It works very well with the SSD. I did not test it with a traditional hard drive, though. It's cool, that it comes with a little screwdriver and some screws, so you have everyhting to secure the SSD or HD in the frame.

Works As Advertized, and a Timely Warning Regarding This Expansion Method
Works as advertized and fits my mid-2012 MacBook Pro's optical bay perfectly. It is, however, missing a screw hole for the screw mounting it to the motherboard (to prevent rattling.) Otherwise, it's an inexpensive way to mount a secondary drive; I've wanted to put that 1 TB hard disk to good use for several months!A bit of advice to those considering this route, though:It has been verified through product testing (with an OWC Data Doubler; still applies in this case) that some MacBooks can't reliably handle SATA-600 devices in the optical bay { 8,1; 8,2; 9,1; 9,2. } If you own one of these models, you should use a SATA-300 device in the bay instead.

It went in easily and seems to be working OK
I bought this for a unibody 15 inch MacBook Pro, to replace a defective one from a different manufacturer. It went in easily and seems to be working OK, except that the optical drive has three mounting screws, while this product only has provision for two, allowing the inboard end to flap up and down. This is mitigated somewhat by the Wi-Fi assembly, which acts to clamp it down almost completely. But there is still some play at the end where the connecting cable is. In time it is possible that the connector could get worked out of its socket.

Works great, the screwdriver inclusion is nice
Works great, the screwdriver inclusion is nice, but getting it to go back and stay there is a joke, don't store the screwdriver in your machine.

Didn't fit my 2012 macbook pro perfectly. Had to sand down a few spots to make it fit. Overall, I'd pay the extra money for the OWC one next time. the screwdriver is a great touch.

Works like a charm
Works great, did not have to be modified per some other buyers.I used it in a mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15in to replace the DVD drive with a second SSD to use as a Photoshop Scratch Disk.No problems at all.
