Nice try, but these pliers are a big fail
I'll give them 2 stars for trying. These pliers just don't cut it. The are listed for installing marine/boat snaps which are heavy duty nickel plated brass or stainless steel. Right on the packaging, it says they are NOT for heavy duty snaps, and I couldn't agree more. I had purchased both types of snaps and these pliers wouldn't crimp either one of them well. They would just start to crimp, but wouldn't make the snap tight on the carpet. I was using 1/4" snaps. The carpet wasn't very thick, so I tried sanding down the shanks on the snaps to 3/16", and even a little shorter. Then the tool wouldn't even engage the snap because the jaws don't come close enough together to crimp the shorter snap. The seller was fine, refunded my purchase and I just paid the return shipping. I'd like to know the exact type of snap the people that say this tools works well are using. It's not like I don't know my way around tools. I've been building cabinets and furniture for 35 years including aircraft cabinets and commercial store fixtures. I have a very nice shop. I am just left confused as to how these pliers would work well with any type of snap.

the snaps that come with it are marginal the stems aren't very long and I would not recommended them for use through thicker materials
The reach is limited of course, if you need to install snaps further from the edge than this can reach you should really get a punch/anvil set at half the price. Also, the snaps that come with it are marginal the stems aren't very long and I would not recommended them for use through thicker materials.

Inexpensive alternative to serious snap tool
May be slightly difficult to smash the stud unless you have strong grip in your hands. Should be fine for a smaller amount of snaps to install.

Worth the extra cash vs the cheaper snap fasteners.
Great quality, very easy to use. I bought this to add snaps to a leather motorcycle riding jacket and this worked great. Looks like the snaps came on the jacket.

It works, but boy does it ever take a ton of effort to squeeze hard enough to mushroom over the post on the cap through the snap...
