5-Star Baby Name Advisor Paperback – April 22, 2008

Fantastic resource for authors, because it gives details on what people (like our readers) will associate with any given name. And, it includes not only the most common names in America but many others, as well. It's well worth the price as a reference for authors. In fact, I kind of wish they'd given details on fewer unusual names and more of the commonest names, but with today's naming conventions, maybe that's a good thing.

This book is okay - nothing special. It's too "inclusive," meaning that it obviously attempts to create 5-star names for every naming convention/culture, but in the process becomes fairly inaccurate for each one - since it's not likely for a white couple to name their child Jesus, just like it's not likely for a Hispanic couple to name their child Muhammad. I would have liked to have known that this book was written in this way. It's also a bit dated in its perspective. Other than that, it's a fine book and the vendor from which I purchased it was fantastic.

Of all the baby name books out there I chose to purchase this one as I liked that names were rated based on popularity, nickname potential and overall impression. I found the description of names helpful and generally agreed with their rating system. My complaints are 1) I wish the book analyzed more names as some of the ones I was considering weren't even included, 2) the book needs to be updated for recent celebrities as some of their name associations were lacking and 3) that the kindle version let you skip to beginning letters instead of just to boy or girl names as it made navigation take a long time. Overall I thought it was a good name book and I recommend buying the printed copy over the kindle version.

Great modern book that gives insight to various names from "First Impression" to chance of misspelling the name. Loved reading it and found it was very accurate when I read descriptions for people I knew and the type of person that typically has that name.
