Finding a sea monster...
Jules Verne's classic "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" looks more like a period adventure story and less like cutting edge science fiction, until you remember it was first published in 1870. The first primitive submarines had only just made their appearence, and the idea that people could live under the sea for months was, well, science fiction...This Campfire Classic graphic novel nicely captures the essentials of Verne's novel, in which a French marine biologist named Professor Aronnax, his servant Conseil, and an intrepid Canadian whale harpooner named Ned Land are part of a U.S. Navy expedition aboard the U.S.S. ABRAHAM LINCOLN, to hunt down a great sea monster. The encounter with the sea monster goes badly, but the three men end up as prisoners on a mysterious man-made sea monster, the submarine NAUTILUS. Their adventures aboard the NAUTILUS, under the command of the expatriate Captain Nemo, make up the bulk of the story, as the submarine roams the oceans in search of wonders, while finding the occasional real sea monster. The original narrative was adapted by Dan Rafter, with excellent illustrations by Bhupendra Ahluwalia. "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" the graphic novel is highly recommended to all ages.

Six-year-old loves it
I was worried my daughter might find this too scary, as she can be sensitive to those things, so I held it back from her Christmas presents, thinking I would save it till she was older... but she found it, and devoured it in one sitting. She's read it twice more since then, and really enjoys it.
