The HC-SR04 sensor has the basic functionality of an ultrasonic module, and is suitable for Arduino or other microcontroller type projects. The board comes with a pair of eyes, one eye transmits an ultrasonic wave which travels a certain distance until it hits an object or wall and bounces it back to the receiving eye.

Used with Beaglebone
I bought this to use with a Beaglebone Black computer. There's online software and good instructions available, and I got the Sensor demo running without any major headaches.
