Not totally convinces...
It's not what I expected. It's a little flimsy and it doesn't slice very well, at least with what I tried. I tried slicing an apple and it only made very thin half slices. When I tried putting a little more pressure so I can could get whole slices it bent. This item may be good for only certain types of foods but for my needs it's probably not going to work, but I'm not giving up on it yet. I will give it a try with other vegetables and see if it can have a purpose in my kitchen. The only thing I really liked was the knife that it came with.

in place really is not good at all
I just got this a couple of weeks ago and maybe it's premature of me because there's a learning curve, BUT, it's a little awkward to use the piece that supposed to hold "a potato" let's say, in place really is not good at all, it's just a plastic with small little prongs that don't really grab the potato. The sharpness is incredible though, I'm actually a little afraid of it. If you're used to using mandolines in the kitchen then this is the one to have because it does get the job done.

I agreed with someone else who said this mandoline is very flimsy. It will not slice a tomato unless it is very, very firm. It also will not slice mushrooms or a cucumber unless it is very, very firm. I would send it back but the knife that is included is wonderful. I wind up using the knife instead of the mandoline nearly every time I try to use the mandoline.

I bought this hoping to slice sweet potatoes in very thin slices
I bought this hoping to slice sweet potatoes in very thin slices. I think it would probably work well on softer veggies, but I had a really hard time getting it to slice the sweet potatoes. The gripper doesn't grip the sweet potato and it is really hard work to get the job done. I do think it would really work well for veggies that are softer.

Cheap and Thin
The two-way slicing blade on the mandolin is pretty cool, but the plastic is so thin that it actually bows a little bit when you're using it. It probably won't last very long before the plastic snaps. Also, the plastic thing with the prongs that is supposed to hold onto food doesn't hold onto anything.Overall: Save your money until you can buy a better one.

In slicing sweet potatoes, too little pressure will cause uneven slices
Works okay. Takes a little bit getting used to in terms of pressure. In slicing sweet potatoes, too little pressure will cause uneven slices. I didn't try to push the upper limits after finding the right amount of elbow grease. It's really lightweight so I'm paranoid it will break but so far has held up well. I really liked the little knife that came with it.

The slicer came with NO directions at all. I have never used a mandolin and it took me a while to work up the courage to use it. It worked ok, but since the blade slicing depth cannot be changed, it will not work for everything.

I'm not that crazy about this. It doesn't seem very sturdy, and hard to anchor so that it doesn't slide around. I should have paid more money and gotten better quality.
