Following Joss Stone's recent cover of Honey Cone's 'Whilst You're Out Looking for Sugar' we thought we'd better get the superior original version back out there, so here it is together with a further 21 tracks from their sterling Hot Wax recordings. Compiled by the inexhaustible Dean Rudland, this is another top value package with widespread appeal.

Beautiful Music
I love this music. It reminds me of being very young.

When songs were simplier, and artists could actually sing. No harmonizer needed.
If you are into real old fashion soul music, you will not be disappointed. I love this CD.

Soulful single disc Hits collection
The Honey Cone enjoyed a few hit singles in the 1970s, but to my mind they never received the critical or commercial acclaim that they deserved. Man, these girls could sing! Sweet, melodic soul music with hooks galore. Imagine a funkier, sassier version of the Supremes and that gets you in the ballpark. This single disc from Backbeats is basically a "Hits" collection that includes their most popular singles and album tracks. That said, there are a few favorites of mind that are noticeably absent from this collection, gems such as "Girls It Ain't Easy", "Dead Blind & Paralyzed", and "The Day I Found Myself." If you want those tracks, and more, you are better off getting the 2-CD set released in 2010 that includes 4 of the Honey Cone studio albums plus some bonus tracks. That one is truly a soul goldmine. But for a taste of what this soulful group was all about, this single disc set is a very good one, and fairly priced too.

More Tha One Track
I bought this album mainly for one track - "Want Ads". The album is filled with many more quality songs. I have one small quibble with the "Backbeats" series. It is that I think they sometimes try to give too much value for money buy including one or two filler tracks and this album is no exception. I am still giving a 5 star recommendation as most of the album is highly enjoyable.
