Years ago my massage therapist recommended I use a tennis ball to work out knots and sore muscles in my back by rolling against a wall. It was a really slow process for me to work out all the knots because you could only work one side at a time. Also it was really frustrating when I would shift positions and the ball would fall on the ground (this would happen often!) So, next I graduated to putting two balls in an old sock, which allowed me to work both sides at the same time. However it was really difficult to get it behind my back in just the right spot. One weekend my father-in-law was visiting and he was complaining his back hurt. I gave him my "sock" with the balls in it. Right away he had difficulty because he couldn't reach far enough behind his back to place it where he needed it. He would try to roll it into position, but it just kept getting away from him and ending up on the floor. He loved the way it would really massage out the knots but found it way to inconvenient to use. This got me thinking that there had to be a better way to design it so you could have something to hold onto. I did some research on the internet and couldn't find anything that solved my problem. It dawned on me that it just needed something to hold onto like a jump rope. That led me to use parachute cord for the first prototype. Parachute cord could be sewn into a tube of fabric with a drawstring cord locks to keep the tennis balls securely enclosed. The parachute cord handles were a great improvement to allow you to have the tennis balls behind your back and the ability to easily adjust the position higher or lower on your back without having to reach behind your back to readjust. You also didn't have to go chasing fallen tennis balls anymore! The handles made it so much more versatile; I could use it against a wall, or chair in a car or airplane while traveling, use it to massage your feet & other parts of your body.
