This set seems like it'll be much more reliable than the old bearings in the retainer rings with the cones and cups. There's a little gap between the bearings in this set and the cups; this makes the crank wobble a bit. This can be fixed by jamming something thin between the bearings and the cups - I used electrical tape wrapped around the bearing to get a nice snug fit.

Excellent Upgrade
I installed a set of these on my 1980 Schwinn cruiser and liked them so much that I bought another set for my 1979 Schwinn cruiser that I'm building. I've ridden old Chicago Schwinn bicycles all of my life so I can't speak much to how these will work with other frames. The short version is bottom line: Let me tell you, it was totally worth replacing the crank arm and dealing with the spacer issue in order to upgrade to these sealed bearings - no more creaky, squeeky cranks or greasy mess and no more worries about sand and water causing me to have to pull everything apart to repack bearings if I get caught in the rain. These bearings feel solid, smooth and they're tight and quiet. Highly recommended. Now for those of you who are working with an older Schwinn, in particular, read on, to possibly save yourself some headaches. The old American-made Schwinns can be a real challenge to find parts for these days so I was pleased to discover that the cups in this kit fit my frame just fine but the rest of the kit did not fit my original crank arm. The collar, which locks down the sprocket, threaded onto the crank arm easily for the first few turns but then would not go any further. I soon found out from another reviewer that this kit does not fit the original Schwinn cranks - I can now conform this - so I decided to buy an aftermarket crank arm.The first one I tried was the Black Ops which is very nice. However, I ran into two problems with it. The first problem: Even though the collar threaded onto the crank arm easily, it did not go on far enough to lock down the sprocket without the use of a spacer. The second problem: I could not get the collar on the opposite, or left foot side, to thread on because the bend in the crank was too close to the threads to provide enough clearance to get the collar situated straight enough to get it threaded on without possibly cross threading it. Your mileage may vary - I read another reviewer who used the Black Ops crank arm with this bottom bracket - I was afraid of junking both items so I decided to try a different crank arm.Next up: The Sunlite crank arm - not quite as nice "looking" as the Black Ops and had one of the same issues as the Black Ops crank arm: The collar on the sprocket side would not thread on far enough to lock the sprocket down without the use of a spacer. However, there was plenty of room on the left foot side to easily get the other collar threaded so I bought a couple spacers(1/8", I believe - one for each bike) and this is a done deal. One bike will have an aftermarket 48t sprocket, the other has the original 46t Schwinn sprocket, they both have spacers and both with Sunlite crank arms and this ends up being the combo that works for me.

Missing a critical piece, hopefully sellers makes good.
Item sold was opened package. The outer lock ring is not the nice Octagonal Chromed Tange lock nut/ring, but a six sided cheap Wald type unit (which oddly enough has bad threads and is not usable). Iโve contacted Larryโs, as he has more units for sale, I should get the Tange Part that belongs with this parts group. So, bottom bracket not usable as sold (incorrect AND unusable lock ring).Called, Larry, nice guy. Says he will send correct/missing part. Will change to 5 stars when item is received, thanks Larry.

Sealed Bearing Heaven
This product has been little known for since the middle 1980's. It's an awesome improvement for any bike with 1 piece cranks. Especially old school 80's BMX bikes. Easy to install and never mess with it again because the bearings are sealed and require almost no maintenance. I purchased this setup in 1985 for a BMX bike of mine and I would not be surprised if they are still in service today long after I sold the bike. For the folks at Tange. This is a great product and I noticed a small change on the fixed bearing race from previous versions. The change is that the race is slightly thicker where it meets the chainring or spider. This does not leave a lot of thread for the other side when you finish the install and if someone not so schooled in bicycles tries to install this they might strip their cranks or the locknut on the bottom bracket. Think about going to the old setup for this for the future as this will make a great product tremendous again.

Great replacement for 1-piece cruiser cranks!
Wow! I'm really happy to find this on Amazon! I blew out my crank bearings right away on my cruiser. This was the best answer! Now the crank freely moves without the slop! Very stable and a great feel! My cruiser is used for heavy loads and hard cranking, and these hold up better than expected! Really strong and still going! Use it with a Black Ops BMX 1 piece crank arm for a super setup! Fast and well packed delivery!

Finally! Sealed Bearings for Old American 1-Pc Cranks!
Used in a Resto-mod of a 50's Schwinn Cruiser. There is really no other sealed bearing option other than these old Tange units. All machined cups, which might stick out a bit on a 60+ yr old battered frame but cranks smooth as butter. Do yourself a favor and get sealed bearings, I believe if Schwinn could have offered them at the time, they would have.

Works great
Wow, these are amazing. I use these on my Burning Man bike to keep the playa dust out of the bearings. Having them sealed off makes a world of difference.

Smooth ride!
So far, these are holding up great on New Orleans pot holes. Super smooth ride.Had to buy a new 1 pc crank however. My old one had old bearing parts rusted on.
