Katan

I found KATAN while sampling traditional Eastern European music on Myspace some years ago, was thrilled to find the CD available on Amazon and ordered it immediately. This album shares a similar haunting, alien (at least to Western ears), almost dreamlike quality with the popular atonal singing of Voix au Mystere Bulgarians, but on this album KATAN has mixed their more traditional Hungarian folk sounds with elements of jazz, rap and synthesized rock, making for an even more interesting journey. If you liked the more widely known Bulgarian singers, then try this album too and you may enjoy it as much as I have. I also love the album cover of the two sisters in costume, their long manes of hair flying!
