Good overall value.,If you don't mind a negligible amount of input lag and prefer having a chouce between 4/3 or 16/9 A/R
Received it today and it works well ( I've been using it for about 12 hours). I'm using it on a curved Samsung 65" 4k (a KU6500 if that helps) screen and the color quality, and depth is pretty good. Being able to switch to 4:3 A/R makes the picture far more clear than the stretched 16:9 picture. Will update in the future to review it's durability. This one appears to be one of the only ones that allow you to switch between aspect ratios. As previously mentioned, changing the A/R requires a long press (about 3 seconds) and once the A/R is displayed another long press will take you to the next A/R ratio. Make sure to let go after each press, if not, the A/R wont change. The input lag is slight, but noticeable ;however, it's not enough to bother me. There seems to be occasional hang ups (frame drops, screen tears and the like), but I'm not certain if that's the upscaler or the or the console (Super Nintendo).Overall, it's a really good unit, especially for the price it's selling for. I'd gladly recommend it.

Converts to hdmi plug only . Does not up convert video to HD or improve video at all .
The description of this item would make one believe that it will convert composite to hd video . It only allows toe composite video to be converted to hdmi in that it will allow you to plug your composite only device into an hdmi receptacle on a newer flat screen TV . The video is not enhanced in any way . The converter did what I required it to do . It allowed me to free up the component connection for my Nintendo WII system and have my old Genesis system connected also . Pryor to this I had to disconnect one or the other to play one or the other . It does this just fine , It does not up convert to HD in any manor what so ever . I am not sure if one of the cheaper brands would work just as well . One other negative is this needs another electrical outlet to plug into to . More wires .

I set it up on the 720 and was good to go
This came and did just what advertised. Recently, I purchased a DVD player with no HDMI access. I couldn't get the RCA hook up to work and and had to purchase this unit in addition to the DVD unit. It worked perfectly. I have an older Vizio TV with only two HDMI access points and will be adding another unit that adds three additional access points......cheaper than purchasing a new TV.....lol. I set it up on the 720 and was good to go.........from start to finish to install..........less than a minute. I have no problem recommending this unit..........Research these prior to ordering to save you a ton of headaches. THIS IS AV TO HDMI..........IF IT WERE HDMI 2 AV, THE ITEM WOULD NOT HAVE WORKED. IT APPEARS PICTURE FLOW CAN ONLY GO ONE DIRECTION......HOPE THIS HELPS.

Wasted money- not even 2 months out of this
This item is cheap and had decent ratings. I had an older DVD player and VCR I wanted attached to my TV which only allows for 1 AV component. I needed to convert my DVD to HDMI to give it a port.Did this do the job? Yes. However, it shorted out today. I purchased it the middle of June. Therefore the longevity wasn't even 2 months. I do not recommend this item, I will be looking for a different converter.

Great for Displaying 4:3 Content, average quality converter.
The majority of these converters are hit and miss. I have a cheaper one(cost me about $17 two years ago) with same dimensions but plastic. The advantage of this converter is that it is one of the very few that will display your 4:3 content in the proper aspect ratio even though it is being output through HDMI. I bought this for my laserdisc player(CLD-59) so I could feed it through my Onkyo receiver's HDMI inputs which which in turn displays it through my 1080p projector(Epson 3020e). The first images I have shown are from a 30 year old laserdisc of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. My phone camera doesn't do the picture justice, but to be clear, I can't say the image is HD quality despite what my projector menu displays(notice the 1920x1080 resolution). The third image is from a 25 year old LD of F/X 2. The fourth is a VHS image of Star War Special Edition. I used these pics to show the converter's ability to display 4:3 correctly. This is done by pressing the "FORMAT" button on converter box. It's a little tricky ,as you have to hold if it for few seconds and release while you "scroll" through the choices. I don't view much VHS content these days, but I wanted to confirm that it works on other older video equipment beside my LD player. I even did my VCD player which works as well. I will keep this in it's 4:3 setting so I can use it on all my 4:3 laserdiscs(for the record it does widescreen as well). i will just switch out the other converter when i want to view widescreen. Only get this if you are adamant about viewing your fullscreen versions of tv shows and movies. As far as video quality and reliability(occasional drop outs that last 4-5 secs.), it is an average converter. Hope this helps.

Great device, but lacks an "off" switch.
Excellent for older devices like a karaoke machine that still uses RCA cables (Puke). It Can put out 1080p @ 60hz with no problem.Puts out medium to low heat and there's no switch to turn it off. You'll need to unplug it to let it "chill off" when not in use.To ensure you do not burn the components inside your Udigital Mini RCA AV to HDMI Audio Video Adapter... unplug it when not in use so that it'll cool down.

Works great! Old vcr to a smart tv connector
I purchased this for my sons tv. My in laws gave us their old VHS player and a ton of Disney VHS tapes to play. With having a newer smart tv, there was no way to plug the vcr into the tv. This made it possible! Now my 6 year old is experiencing my childhood memories by watching old VHS tapes. Always remember to rewind before returning! ;)

Bring the old audio video equipment back to life with this little adapter
4 1/2 starsThis is one of those handy little devices that if you need it is worth a million bucks. We have a fair bit of old equipment that uses the RCA/AV out puts, from VCR's (yup still use em) DVD players, and old gaming consoles. With TV's the move away from this ancient technology started years ago and many new sets do not have connectivity for the old ancillary devices. There's nothing wrong with the old equipment and I hate to toss something just because its old, heck I'm old!The Udigital box has allowed me to keep using this old equipment on a new 4K TV that only has HDMI and USB connectivity. I really enjoy the new TV but we were unable to connect the old gaming consoles when family with little kids came over. We still have some old VCR tapes of family events that get watched occasionally and without the box I would have to set up an old TV that we kept in the basement just for this one purpose. The box is simple to use, as long as you make sure to follow the universal colour coding for connecting the RCA cable there's nothing that can be done wrong. The HDMI cable plugs into the box opposite the RCA ports, mini USB power cable plugs into the side where the 720/1080 setting switch is located.I do need to make a note here. You will need a USB power source close by. The provided cable is one of the usual cables and does not include an actual power source. Unless you have a PC or laptop located right next to your TV this will be frustrating. If you do use a PC/laptop the cable only draws power, there are no drivers needed as the box does not interact with the computer. If you have it you can use an old AC adapter with a common USB port on it or alternatively you can buy power bars that have USB charging ports. These have become very common place and Amazon has several. I would recommend going this route as it gives the box power plus allows you to plug your TV and other items into the same source. I had an old AC adapter with mini USB connector that I used. Using a USB connection is a good thing. If you travel you'll know that not every country uses the same voltage for AC equipment, typically it will be either 110v or 220v but the plug used can have many variations. USB is a universal standard you can use anywhere on the globe. You'll discover that the box does run warm even when not engaged in render up scaled video. This is one point that concerns me, why it draws enough power to warm up when sitting idle.Once connected to source, power, and TV there's really nothing else you need to do. On the TV select the HDMI input its connected to, start the VCR/DVD Player/Console and you should immediately see the screen show up. From there use the attached equipment like you would if t was attached directly to a TV, like you used to.Since it works with various international video formats used around the globe it can be used to in other areas of the world. As per the manufacturers specs it will function with PAL, NTSC3.58, NTSC4.43, SECAM, PAL/M, PAL/N standards. The 720/1080 switch allows you to choose the resolution best suited to your TV. If you're not sure which one to use, switch from one to the other and use the setting that looks the best. How well does it work? Please see the images below for reference. Generally, videos look good, not great but good. I found that there was some occasional ghosting and colours tended to be rendered a little too bright. You can also see in one image the line between the top and the bottom half of the screen where its showing the old style of refreshing the screen. The screen used to be refreshed, at the same time, the top and the bottom half horizontally so that the screen didn't look like it was lagging. I won't go into details as there is too much to type out but I wanted to note it here so that if you see it you won't think the box isn't working correctly.I am taking off half a star for the heating issue as this concerns me.
