North American Hummingbirds: An Identification Guide

This is absolutely a fantastic guide to the hummers of the US. The photos are great, the explanations and ID differences are very clear, very good illustrations of adults and juveniles. Definitely would recommend this over Petersons Field Guide Hummingbird of North America. I have both and the Peterson guide was the standard, but George West book now becomes the new standard.

We didn't care for all the drawings, rather than photos of the birds. The photos of the tail feathers weren't enough. We were hoping for actual pictures of the birds so we can match them to the birds we see on our hummingbird feeder. We found this book to be very unhelpful.

This is an excellent little guide. Now I can sex/age the Rufous in my yard. The drawings depicting the ventral, dorsal, and lateral views of both sexes and all ages side by side for comparison is really great. Much better than any field guide I know of. Highly recommended.

Excellent book

This is a very fine book-- great photos and very usable text, all you would need to make the best possible ID's without being an expert.

This is just what I was looking for! Well written and illustrations are excellent.

This was a gift for my son and his wife and they say they enjoy it very much.
