The Art of Inspired Rooms
If you appreciate romantic, colorful, textured, feminine, patinaed, sensuous, dressmaker-detailed rooms with unusual accessories, you'll enjoy this book. The room on the cover of this book is my idea of perfection in a living room. It doesn't look decorated to me; rather, it appears that these elements came together naturally from family heirlooms, favorite antique shops, art fairs, travels and an interesting life. I can picture a Henry James' heroine living in that room. The room is more than the sum of its elements, but you want to study the elements to see why they combine so artfully. And that's why I enjoyed this book. Ms. Moss explains how the art and inspiration of creating a room unite for her.She shares the storyboard collages of beautiful images which she used to design particular rooms. Looking at these images you see the mood or atmosphere she aspired to create. Then you see how these images take form in a room. The book includes 11 rooms she designed along with the design "why not" maxims she employed for the featured room which make them so deeply original and intriguing. Some favorite maxims of hers I loved were why not: * slipcover a bergere (chair) to reveal its beautiful frame rather than conceal it? * use (ladies) fans as decorative objects? * hang landscape paintings in a small room to trick the eye into seeing views beyond? * enliven a color scheme with a brilliant accent, such as chartreuse, orchid or Granny Smith apple green? * use little chairs to hold books & pictures--at least until visitors arrive? * bring a planter indoors & change its contents seasonally--boxwood in winter, tulips in spring, daisies in summer and dahlias in autumn? If you appreciate Ms. Moss's romantic style, you'll enjoy an intimate view of how she approaches decorating. Some of the rooms you may have seen before such as a blue showhouse bedroom with bed which floats in center of room (I appreciated seeing more close-ups of corners of this room), a bedroom with a blue and cream Polonnaise bed and a gray and red showhouse living room. The book may leave you wanting to see more of her rooms--I wished it were longer. If you want to learn how inspiration unfolds for a designer, this book is a lovely resource which provides those insights.

Charlotte Moss Decorates
Love this book! Charlotte Moss decorates beautifully, & each page is a sensory delight. She also writes so well, that her quotes are lovely & memorable.

Pretty rooms
There are 11 rooms covered in this book. Each room has an introduction that shares Charlottes inspiration for the room. There is a collage for each room, and similar to other reviews the collage did nothing for me and I quickly turned the page. There are numerous photos for each room, all beautiful and high quality. Each section concludes with a page or two of 'why nots' that serves to highlight some of the key aspects of the roomI found the book an enjoyable light read with beautiful rooms, although her style is much more ornate than my own

AMAZING!!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book, and refer to it constantly. I find every room featured to be inspiring, and have actually used one of the rooms as a model for a room in my home - something I've never done with any other decorating book or blog. (I used the room on the cover as the vision for my office, which now has a garden theme.I have to say, too, that I don't understand the reviewers who said the book was uninspired, etc. After reading a couple of reviews that recommended The Winter House over Charlotte Moss Decorates, I bought both books, and found The Winter House to be not nearly as captivating.

One of her best!
I bought this book when it first came out. I loved it! Since then, I review it often and each time love it even more. In spite of the multitude of design and decorating books I have, this timeless book remains in my top ten.

Just "OK" - not my favorite
I was so disappointed with this book (never judge a book by it's pretty cover), its filled with pictures that are really not that inspiring and ideas that just are written in such large text and again, not very innovative. I really disliked the collage format - horrid.I would NOT recommend this book for the traditional home decorator, my advice would be to buy a 2 year subscription for Veranda or Traditional Home magazine which are a lot more inspiring, with beautiful pictures and well written articles.

An Absolute Delight!
I'm a HUGE Charlotte Moss fan and was so excited when this book came out, but after reading the luke warm reviews on Amazon, I decided to hold off. Later, saw a copy on a friend's coffee table and after a quick "look through" came home and placed the order and the book has NOT disappointed!!! This designer has a genius for detail and I have loved every page. I only wish I could give it six stars! Carla Livingston

Enjoyable to look at for decorating inspiration.
Beautiful photos in a book that records some of Moss's show house projects. She points out some of the ideas she used that the layperson could implement, but don't expect much practical information. For those who love to decorate this is a fun addition to a collection of decorating books, but not one of the most useful.
