This battery will show remaining power. No need to buy another meter.

I don't think he adequately answered your question. It is the Controller that will sustain damage if you connect your panels first with no battery connected to absorb the current. The current from the solar panels must have 'somewhere to go'. Think of it that way. Also, when disconnecting the system to service or similar follow the reverse procedure. Some Controllers do not specify this procedure, most do (yours is one, apparently). You're welcome.

Yes - battery is sealed, according to the manufacturer, and can be positioned on a side - but why would you want to do that besides being able to have access to the terminals ???
