Tronnixx Emergency Magnesium Flint Fire Starter, Lighter, Ferro Fire Steel Rod with Compass

Gave a good globby spark. Machined nicely. Looks great. Rod seem light weight, but it should last. Asked manufacturer (seller) about getting spare rods and have yet to hear back. That is not so good. Not much room for tinder-- will use cotton and Vaseline. Overall view is that this is a good product, but don't be he-woman or he-man with it. Treat it like a tool and it should last awhile. Compass works.

Great size for your EDC kit. Have to remove the coating to get some sparks going.

I like the design of the Emergency Magnesium Flint Fire Starter by Tronnixx. It is about the size of a pen, but weighs a little more. It is made of textured aluminum to be lightweight, waterproof, and it has a good grip. It comes apart into four sections, five if you unscrew the flint rod from it's holder. The section at one end has a small compass and a compartment that holds a tiny piece of cotton for tinder. At the other end the section has a triangular loop to hook on a key chain or caribiner. This section contains the striker. The middle part separates to remove the cover from the flint and flint handle. It is all very compact.The concept is clever and this fire starter will be a good tool to have in my emergency kit. It took me at least a dozen tries before I was able to get a spark. This is probably due to my lack of skill since I had never done this before. The main thing I didn't like about this was there were no instructions included. Instead, I received an email from the seller sent to my Amazon email address. This said I could get the user guide by going to their website. They didn't provide a link to the website but tell you to use any popular search engine and search for their website. Then before you can get the user guide you must register on their website, get a confirmation email, and reset your password. The instructions contained a video that showed someone starting a fire with one strike. There were no tips or instructions on the striking part of starting the fire. So, while I think that this will be a useful tool in an emergency, I believe that the seller could provide instructions with the product or make them much easier to get. I purchased this product at a discount in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

received the Tronnixx Spark Best Emergency Magnesium Flint as a promo at a discounted price in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Item arrived quickly from amazon in a nice box. The metal body has some heft to it, and the textured grips all over assure it won't slip out of your hands. Black body is about the same weight and size as a small quality pen. Key ring loop is a nice addition to attach to keys or a carabiner and then to your knife case. Pictures from manufacturer show all the Tronnixx device can do - but doesn't sufficiently show the ability to stow some small tinder (cotton, lint) - not a lot - but enough to give you an assist in starting your fire. The compass in the end is a nice navigational tool for emergencies as well. Make sure to strike the magnesium flint numerous times to remove the paint/protective coating on it before shaving off magnesium and striking it to start your fire. The different components can be screwed together in a different order to allow a better grip on the magnesium piece!
