I have alot of stones and rocks in my ground. This product is not that thick and was punctured many times by the sharp stones that protruded from the clay ground.

you dig down a few feet around here and it's all clay and tree branches, pretty rough. the underlayment is a good buffer, kind of like a blanket. i think it was well worth the extra step.
