Now in an updated design, RedEye includes an infrared out port so you can easily stow it in a cabinet and still control your TV. RedEye is:PersonalEach person in your house can use her own smartphone, tablet, or PC as a controller, and more than one controller can interact with your gear simultaneously.SimpleOne touch launches any activity -- watch TV, listen to music, play a video. And custom screen layouts for each activity mean you never have to hunt for the right button.SmartMulti-touch and motion gestures, free software updates, backup to and control from a PC, integrated TV program guide, all for a fraction of the price of professional systems. How Does It Work?Central StorageAfter you install the RedEye app, your PC, smartphone or tablet can communicate with the RedEye dock over Wi-Fi. When you configure the system to reflect your home theater setup, your configuration is stored on the RedEye device. Then if you connect with a different phone your stored configuration automatically syncs to the new controller. In fact, when you switch activities using one controller you can see the change reflected on other controllers. You can even back up your configuration to a PC through RedEye's built-in homepage.Wirelessly, on Your NetworkEven though our computers and cell phones are on the Internet, most of our other electronics continue to work using older technology such as infrared remote controls. While infrared is reliable and affordable, it has limitations -- chief among them a relatively limited range and the inability to penetrate opaque objects like walls. RedEye uses infrared to communicate with your gear, but it communicates with your phone using Wi-Fi. In other words, RedEye maintains a line of sight to your equipment so that you don't have to. It also means that RedEye is essentially a "bridge" that can put your home theater online. Yes, you guessed it -- with RedEye you can even control your home theater when you are away from home.Standard Internet TechnologyRedEye is actually a small Linux server. It uses standard Internet technologies like TCP and HTTP, and sends around information in XML documents. Why do you care? Because it means that RedEye isn't just a remote control platform for your smartphone. In theory, any Internet-connected device can communicate with RedEye. We have already released software updates that enable you to control RedEye from any PC with a basic web browser, and our Android application is now in beta testing. Software Configure and control RedEye from any PC with a web browser. You can even back up your configuration for safekeeping. RedEye fully supports tablets. On the iPad, you can preview a full hour of TV programming right alongside your activity buttons. View larger View larger The RedEye app makes it easy to control any RedEye system on your network. Simply tap on the Rooms screen and select the RedEye room you want to control, and the app takes you immediately to the currently running activity for that room. Multi-room capabilityThe RedEye app makes it easy to control any RedEye system on your network. Simply tap on the Rooms screen and select the RedEye room you want to control, and the app takes you immediately to the currently running activity for that room.Multi-controller possibilitiesWe designed RedEye from the beginning to support multiple controllers. Configure the system on one phone and your configuration automatically syncs to any new phone, tablet, or PC that connects over the network. Pick up your phone to take a call, and anyone else in the room can open the application and pick up right where you left off -- everything from your devices and commands to the current activity update automatically and in real-time.Control RedEye from your PCYour RedEye runs a built-in web server so you can control your RedEye system from any PC with a web browser just as you do with your smartphone, with full access to all your activities, devices, and commands.Integrated channel guideThe RedEye app includes a television channel guide covering cable, satellite, and over-the-air broadcasts in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, with more countries coming soon. With the channel guide you no longer need to take up the space on your main screen while you decide what to watch next. It is also easy to filter the list based on your favorite channels so that you don't have to scroll through dozens of screens just to find what you want.Online infrared code databaseSure, RedEye can learn commands from your existing remote controls, but who wants to do that? Our software is backed by an online database of 70,000 infrared codes covering over 1,600 device manufacturers, so there's a good chance we have what you need. And because the database is stored on a web server rather than on your phone or the RedEye hardware, you get updates to the database as soon as they are available -- no need to wait for the next software release.Quick launchYou want to be able to pick up your remote control and use it right away. If your remote is an app on your phone, then it has to launch fast and put you in the driver's seat immediately. RedEye is optimized to launch quickly and to bring you right to the activity in progress. And now if you are using iOS 4 on a device that supports multi-tasking it's even faster than before.Activity-based approachWe believe your home theater should be organized around what you do, not what hardware manufacturers produce. One touch to play a movie, touch again to watch TV -- no more trying to remember which audio and video inputs you need.Smart actionsMany other remotes have "macro" capability (the option to have one button send two or more signals). RedEye goes beyond macros with smart actions that actually keep track of things like whether a device is on or off. Smart actions are particularly useful when switching activities -- when you transition from watching TV to playing a BluRay, RedEye is smart enough to leave the TV on.Customizable button layoutsRedEye gives you a unique button layout for each activity you create, so the "remote" you use when listening to music is different from the one you use when watching TV. You can customize everything from button placement to size. We even have hundreds of channel logos built right into the application.Activity templatesCustomizable button layouts for each activity are great, but creating them from scratch can be a lot of work. When you create a new activity, RedEye starts you off with a well-designed template. And by template we don't mean a single, standard set of buttons. Instead, RedEye uses information like the activity type (Watch TV or Listen to Music?) and the devices you include in the activity (do you route your sound through an A/V receiver or your TV speakers?) to determine what buttons to include and how they should function.Macro and toggle buttonsIn addition to the usual tap or tap-and-hold functionality you expect, it is easy to make RedEye activity buttons perform more advanced functions. Macro buttons can send out multiple commands -- for example, a smart mute button that turns on closed captioning when turning off the volume. Toggle buttons can switch between different functions each time you press them, like the classic play/pause button on a CD or MP3 player. ShortcutsTouchscreens are great because they provide the ultimate flexibility -- custom layouts for each activity being one example. However, they can make it harder to tap the right button when you are channel surfing or otherwise need to be looking elsewhere. RedEye uses the full functionality of the iPhone -- multitouch and the accelerometer -- to overcome this limitation. Choose from any of five motion gestures or eighteen multi-touch gestures for any button in your activity layout. And if you are controlling RedEye from your PC, you can even assign buttons to keys on your computer -- using the arrow keys to adjust volume or the number keys to change channels.Customizable delaysWhen executing a series of actions -- for example during the launch of an activity -- it is important to be able to fine-tune the delay between commands. RedEye allows you to insert delays of up to 20 seconds in 0.05 second increments.Disabling the sleep timerThe built in sleep-timers in iOS and Android help you conserve battery, and so you want to leave them on in most cases. However, when you are sitting down within arm's reach of RedEye's charging cradle, you might prefer to keep the phone awake. A simple setting in the RedEye app allows you to disable the sleep timer while the application is running without disabling it for all applications.Powerful scripting engineRedEye includes a powerful scripting engine that allows deep customization of buttons and activities. The browser application even includes a sophisticated development environment that makes writing scripts as simple as point and click. This new engine is the basis for future upgrades that will allow control of devices using Internet Protocol, scheduled events, and layout controls that go beyond simple buttons.Remote accessThe RedEye application allows you to find a RedEye device by IP address. For the networking-inclined, this means that you can access your RedEye even when you are away from home through a VPN or port forwarding.Full backup and restoreHave you invested some time in getting your RedEye configured just right? By accessing RedEye's homepage, you can backup your configuration to a PC for safekeeping. Home theater integrators often use this feature to store common devices and commands, which can then be "restored" onto a new unit to speed up the installation process.URL-invocation of commandsFor those into home automation, RedEye offers the ability to invoke infrared commands by loading a URL using HTTP-GET. By popular demand, we are currently working on some changes that will enable launching an activity by invoking a URL, as well.Button feedbackAlthough jumping through channels by flicking your phone forward and back is surprisingly intuitive and fun, tapping on touchscreen buttons just isn't as natural as pressing hard buttons on your original remote. RedEye offers the option to play a satisfying click sound. If you are a bit more adventurous, you can even have your phone vibrate on each button press.Full-screen tablet supportThe RedEye app now runs full screen on both the iPad and Android tablets. On the iPad, RedEye works in both landscape and portrait orientations, and offers full support for multi-tasking. In landscape orientation, you can preview a full hour of TV programming information right alongside your current activity controls.Complete AccessibilityFor years Apple has been a leader in making computing technology accessible to people with diverse needs. RedEye now completely integrates Apple's accessibility framework to bring the power of control to more people.Multi-lingual supportRedEye is available in dozens of countries, and our customers increasingly use RedEye in their native languages, with English, Spanish, German, and Italian today and more in the works.Toolbar hidingThe iPhone screen is pretty big, but sometimes you want to get everything out of the way and focus on your remote control. RedEye gives you a few different options to remove clutter and take control.MultitaskingRedEye fully supports iOS 4 multitasking, which means that you can get back to controlling your activities even faster than before.Retina display supportRedEye now provides high resolution button images so that everything looks crisp and clear on your new iPhone 4. PC & Android Owners: Read this before you buy Redeye
I consider myself a advanced user when it comes to configuring LAN networks including WiFi. Working as professional engineer using PCs for past 25 years tough me that almost all issues can be resolved. Well, Redeye seems to be an exception. The Redeye I purchased brand new from Amazon straight from the box cannot be configured as typical WiFi client. Because it has no interface other than WiFi, you wont be able to connect it to your PC and access using browser unless RedEye is already configured to work with your WiFi network. Typical chicken and egg issue.Redeye uses so called "Ad-hoc" networking method which is supported by iOS but not by Android. So trying to configure Redeye from your Android Phone instead won't work either. Do not expect taking your RedEye from the box plug it in to your outlet, run the app and enjoy. It is not a case. Be prepared to spend time on trying to get a help that may never come. The User's Manual installation step on PC is vague and lacks of important information which makes you going and browse the web for a solution. RedEye website brings two other methods in case first one did not work. First method is based on accessing RedEye using it's serial number when your PC has Apple Bonjour service installed. This method does not work either (Win 7 Pro 64-bit).Finally, there is a application provided on manufacturer website which supposed to scan network for Redeye transmitter. And in fact it does. But once my RedEye was found, the application was not able to determine its description, hardware type, MAC address neither firmware version as it is shown on help page. Attempts to access RedEye using setup or Emergency options were unsuccessful.Support page suggest finding device IP address using any device equipped with iOS. Well, I have none in my household so it won't work either.*** 2/12/2013 UpdateThe customer support responded next business day to my email and advised to use different PC to configure RedEye. I used machine running Windows XP Pro and indeed it was able to connect to RedEye and configure it properly. From there remaining WiFi configuration was easy and in a few minutes I was able to move to next step which was remote devices configuration. How much I was surprised when I found that RedEye android app does not support adding new devices or commands to remote. Unlike when using iPhone or iPad, you have to use a PC to do it using standard internet browser like IE or Chrome. Manufacturer should mention it in the manual so it would save me time on trying to add new device using android app. I also noticed that adding and configuring device on PC does not make it appear on your android phone immediately. I actually configured my LCD TV remote panel and was expecting to see the remote layout on my Samsung Android tablet but Device list was empty. Next day morning, I have checked again and found designed layout on my tablet and my Galaxy phone which also has RedEye app installed. Not sure why it takes a while to synchronize configuration but it seems you have to be patient.*** 2/22/2013 UpdateI've spent 8 additional hours on designing layouts for another 5 (out of 10 total) IR devices. Because none of these devices were on RedEye database, I had to teach all remote codes and that is why it took so long to complete. At the end, I found that some IR codes does not work and they had to be re-entered. There is also lots of trouble with "toggle" commands. The programming interface for these is confusing and manual vague.*** 3/2/2013 UpdateAfter couple of days of not using RedEye, I tried it last weekend and I was surprised getting error message from android app about timeout when requesting IR command as before. It was appearing not only on my smartphone but also on tablet. I power cycled the RedEye and it worked fine for the rest of the day but next morning the issue came back. Being tired of questionable operation reliability of RedEye, interface lag and knowing how much maintenance it requires, I have decided to return it. Until something more reliable comes alive, I will continue using my large set of remotes. At least they all works snappy and do not refuse to work after a while of not using. Here is list of devices I tried to use with RedEye remote:- Samsung 55" LCDTV (supported in library)- Panasonic bdt500 blue ray player (supported in library)- Motorola FIOS 7100-P2 stb (supported, generic)- Yamaha A-S500 stereo amplifier (unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- SlingCatcher (unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- Xtreamer Media Player (unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- KDLinks HD700 3D Media Player (unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- MagicTV DVR (unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- HDMI 4x2 Matrix unsupported, had to teach IR codes)- Optoma HD83 projector (support unknown, did not have a chance to use it with RE)- PS3 (not supported by IR commands)

RedEye RE0002 (WOW)
The RedEye RE 0002 is the best universal remote control system I have used. I use it with the Ipad/Iphone and PC and it works like a charm. the unit is small and you can put it almost anywhere as long as it has an unobstructed view of your electronics. Because this product has been out for a few years now the software is much better than what it was when it first released and because of that you will most likely be able to find your equipment control codes very easy. For example I put my TVs model number in the search box and it found one set of codes that was set up for my TV. I do want to stress that it is not a plug and play device. You will need to read the Manuel and watch the set up video to learn the basics of the RedEye. Not a big deal considering that most people in the market for a product like this are very knowledgeable about electronics. The RedEye uses your WiFi to communicate with your control devise and for me it is faster to use the RedEye than to use my actual remote control. That is one of the reasons I like it so much. Not everything was easy and getting the button layout just the way I want it took some time and I did have some issues with the WiFi at first. But the online support page and the advanced videos they have posted really helped me out. If that fails you can always call tech support and they will be glad to help. So far I have TV, A/V Receiver, Cable BOX, Xbox 360 and Blu-Ray player being controlled with the RedEye and plan to add a few more electronics to that specific room. Just a side note the best control to use is the Ipad looks really nice and they fit the remote part and the TV Guide part all on the Ipads big screen. For the lazy people giving the RedEye a bad review don't base your decision on there reviews because they did not take the time to really learn how to use the RedEye. It will take more than 15 mins for set up.PROS: 1.Works fast when controlling devises 2.Button layout can be anyway you want it 3.Online support page is very helpful 4.Price is a little high but will pay for it self in the long run. No more batteries!! 5.Set up can take a few hours but once you have it the way you want you can save what you did to your PC and if it ever gets erased just upload your backup file.CON: Not for people that don't have a little knowledge of networking and there own electronics.
