Clock ticks after placing batteries in, however, the hands don't move. I placed new batteries in upon receiving this item, set it and even after five minutes , no movement. Aesthetically pleasing and not at all bulky. Decided to use it solely for decorative purposes and not what it was intended to do ( telling TIME.)
