A Heartfelt Story Of The Struggle Struggle Against Apartheid
'Cry Freedom' is an historical, heartfelt and true story of the struggle against apartheid. The conditions in the black 'townships' are clearly depicted and the brutality dealt to those who struggled against the white regime is presented convincingly and with no hold barred, although it doe not contain graphic violence. Donald Wood's and his family's escape from South Africa is thrilling. The characters are real and so is the story. I thoroughly recommend 'Cry Freedom'.

Required reading
What a story! It is hard to comprehend that this cruel and brutal story is true. Humans are often crueler to each other than we can imagine. The power of friendship and what one will sacrifice is prominent in the book.

Apartheid
Excellent movie about the true story of apartheid, that led to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee as their attempt to heal grievous injustices.

A heart-wrenching must read
A wrenching portrait of life in South Africa under apartheid. This is based on the true story of black activist Steve Biko and his friendship with white newspaper editor Donald Woods. Biko opens Woods eyes to the reality of life in South Africa for black people. Biko is a true hero - despite the cruel way he is treated, he advocates for non-violence and a recognition of the equal value of both black and white people. It is a tragic irony that his position against violence, his deeply held faith, his articulate moderation, his intelligent likability are all met with police brutality. This is an important book, a book of the highly acclaimed film, and well-written. An enduring heart-wrenching classic.

Cry Freedom
This novel written by John Briley, demonstrates the courage and struggle of Steve Biko, as well as other black citizens. The story took place in South Africa during the Apartheid period. Black people were treated unfairly, and deserve no rights. This story also gives Biko's idea on equality to the readers. The author describe vividly about black people's lives in South Africa. In the story' it show black people participating an underground speech made by Steve Biko. All the black people wish that they could be the same as the white people are, that's why they are there, though it's risky.I am pleased with Biko' spirit. He demonstrates human's basic desire-freedom.This novel is very easy to understand, and it's the best non-fiction novel I ever read. However, this novel is too predictable, so I give it 4 stars out of 5.

Not hardcover
It’s a good book in okay condition, I ordered in in hardcover but it’s definitely not hardcover, it’s paperback, I normally only buy hardcover books and if I had known it was in paperback I would not have bought it I would have kept on looking until I got one in hardcover.
