This works exactly as intended and advertised.
I used this as a primer for painting and to prep the wood for sanding, so that I get a more smoother finish. This stuff dries relatively quickly, so do not pour out too much. Pour out little, apply, and then pour out more.Have some water handy to clean the brushes and keep the formula from from drying out. And wetting the brush frequently makes application easier, more uniform, and creates a smoother surface.Keep the coating thin and make multiple coatings. But if you apply to much, it's easy to sand off. This has no fumes, it's non-toxic, and clear when dry,.One tip - I found much lower prices elsewhere than on Amazon, up to 50% less. Only reason I bought from Amazon was because I was in a rush.

Mediocre
First the pro... this sanding sealer is easy to apply. Now the cons... First, and worst, water-based acrylic paint has woefully poor adhesion to wood sealed with this product. In a typical application (yes, pinewood derby car), what would typically take two coats took no fewer than 12 (TWELVE!!!) coats due to the insanely thin coats required necessary to build up a properly adhered base. And this was after sanding the sealed wood at four different grits (testing, after the first, 220, showed poor performance): 220, 320, 400, 180 (on different cars, in order to perform proper testing). Second, on a standard pinewood block, it took no fewer than 8 coats (with sanding, again tested at various grits) to smooth out the grain. So, 20 (TWENTY!!!!) coats to finish a car (not including clear coat and wax).Do yourself a favor and use a different (which MUST mean "better") sealer.

Sealed well
Sealed the derby car and made painting easy. May have made the wood too hard so that when we inserted axles the wood split a couple of times. Probably user error though.

Really adds quality to the project

Water-based
This is a good product for what it does. I will likely use an oil based product in the future. When painted after several days of drying it still absorbed water and was tacky. Seals well, like using school white glue. Did not seem to improve the ability to sand the derby car any smoother.

Great product
This will get that wood grain look off of your car. Requires about three coats. Will definitely buy again.
