What's the difference between the mash and the pellets?  And which one would be best to use when converting my budgies from seed, the mash or pellet?

The mash has a cornmeal-like consistency; it is ground rather than pelletized. The super-fine pellets are about the size of small seeds. I am far from expert, but I would think the pellets would be more like the seed they're currently eating. Our vet suggested mixing the super-fine pellets 50/50 with high-quality seeds to transition our 2 young budgies. That was a couple of months ago, and mostly they still pick around the pellets to eat the seed--but we will not give up!

How long can the bag last if not open if I bout more than one and use only one per month.

There is a 'Use Before' date stamped on the bottom of each package. I only go through one per month also, and I have 3 bags currently "in stock".  The one I just received with my Subscribe & Save shipment was dated 'Use Before Dec 2022' so I know it's okay unopened until then.  Hope this helps!
