Vinyl LP pressing. 2013 release, the second album from this Indie band led by Ruban Nielson. II builds on the break-beat, junk-shop charm the 32-year-old multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Nielson came to be renowned for following Unknown Mortal Orchestra's self-titled 2011 debut, and signals the solidification of the band's position as an endlessly intriguing, brave psychedelic band. UMO is unafraid to dig deeper than the rest to lock into their intoxicating, opiate groove and bring rock 'n' roll's exaggerated myths to life.

One of the best underrated artists and albums in even the Indie and Alternative music scene.
This album was unexpectedly good. This is Unknown Mortal Orchestra's second album but it already feels like they mastered their distinct style and craft. Many of the songs have such a remote yet touching effect when one listens not just to the beat and tone of the song but also the the depth of the lyrics. Even though the track "Swim & and Sleep (Like A Shark)" is the biggest hit and probably best song of this album, the rest of the tracks can be just as amazing and memorizing. I really recommend anyone reading my review to really consider buying the vinyl album for these important reasons: 1) Buying this won't be hard on your wallet, guys and girls! Less than 15 bucks as of this writing. 2) This vinyl album comes with a code to digitally download the album anyway so why not? 3) And third, vinyl records sound far out and awesome when played on the right record player. Oh, I almost forget, the cover art is also so unique and incredible.

One more album and we'll have enough material for a fantastic "Best Of."
Ok, maybe that headline reads too harshly. I like UMO a whole bunch, in fact the clever counterpoints between the guitar and singing on this and the first album were downright inspirational, like they made me want to rush home and twaddle with my instruments to make some smooth faux R&B guitar tunes. It's just that both albums are so uneven from track to track. Honestly I think that many of these are being kind of forced into a basic song structure, forced to support several verses and drag on too long. Like, just maybe your pop album can tolerate one or two pieces in sonata form- theme, development, restatement. Maybe they don't all need singing, I mean whoever The Guy is in UMO is obviously, obviously a seasoned musician with a keen ear but it seems like he's afraid the hot hippie chicks won't like his tunes if they don't all sound like Beatles B-sides (and this is coming from a person who would rather listen to UMO, or even YMO, ELO, and/or Sun Ra's Arkestra than the Beatles 100% of the time).

Oh so good.
This album's got a different vibe -- more dark maybe? -- than the first S/T record. I might be able to say that this one picks up where the first left off in that you still get the fun pstchadelic lyrics, but now you're also getting a more mature approach. It's got more depth now. I love side 2 of the album, it's just got a great feeling to it. I'll never forget the day i got the record in the mail, it was perfect music for that day and I love the packaging and everything. Yes it comes with full lyrics.

UMO is currently on tour with Bass Drum of Death. Attend, or regret it forever.Album? Christian the Lion gives it four paws up. I listen to it on the way to and from work and it helps me forget that I have a job that a robot could be doing. It would also be my soundtrack if I were producing a 70's cop drama with an old crusty "by the book" veteran cop and his hippie rookie partner who has little respect for authority. Both have crazy mutton chops. For $5 (or more), it's required purchasing/listening.

great album
All the tracks have their merits. The guitar playing is really quite great. If you are looking for a real hi-fidelity experience, this is not it. The album actually sounds better in my truck than in my living room. Listening to it, takes me back to when I was a kid listening to 8 track tapes.

UMO best LP in my mind !
