Functional, cheap, probably necessary for most people who are installing sights on their pistols.
These punches do work and I doubt you can beat them for the money because they really cannot scratch your frame or sights. However, you will need an extremely hard surface that you don't have to worry about scratching if you do not own a gun vice (I did not). You will really have to hit them hard since the nylon is fairly soft. I scuffed up one of my three punches installing two Trijicon night sights sets on both of my Glocks but they are definitely still usable. Are these a necessity? No. But, they're probably the simplest and most guaranteed answer if you care about the finish on your gun and sights. Worst case, go to the hardware store and buy a metal punch and just put a couple layers of Gorilla Tape on the end to protect your finish.

Gets the job done cheaply but you gotta work for it
Much much much cheaper than a sight pusher tool. Gets the job done, but you gotta work for it. They can chip because of the material they’re made of but it’s a good trade off knowing they won’t goober up your slide. Nobody likes idiot marks on their slide. If you are having a hard time getting the rear sight to move, try flipping the slide over and going the other direction.

Works for Glock rear sights
Not sure what in the world some of these other reviewers are doing with these punch tools, but they work perfectly for removing and replacing the rear sight on a Glock (Gen 3, 22). Not only do they do the job right, but not even so much as a scuff on the tool or the sights. If you have to go all Hulk on these to move a sight...you must be doing it wrong. True, seller says it's not for rear sights, but it worked perfectly for that application. This along with the Tekton 30812 soft mallet and you got yourself a $16 rear sight tool (assuming you already have a vise).

Bought this along with a brass punch to install a set of tritium sights on a pistol. It did an OK job but I'm glad I got the brass punch too as it was what ended up finally getting the job done. This nylon punch got the sight so far in then I couldn't use this to get it any further as this just kept chipping and getting mangled every time I tried to move the sight.Might just be because I was using it on an M&P and those are notorious for being a pain to install sights on or could just be the product it's self. Either way it did work somewhat and I have used it on a few other things that it worked with so it wasn't a total loss.

Worked great floating out the rear sight on my G21 to install new tritium sight.
I was able to float out the plastic rear sight on my G21 without any issues, just remember that sight is plastic and try to keep as much of this tool on the sight towards the lowest point possible and you should have the same results. I will be able to reuse the OEM sight if needed for some reason...I can not think of a reason why, but this tool made it possible.

some hand filing and fitting would be recommended for the longevity of the sights especially if they ...
Nylon punches don't leave marks on metal but need to be used with some common sense. Can't use these to pound out stubborn weapons pins nor recessed pins due to their non marking properties. If intending to use these to drift a dovetail sight, some hand filing and fitting would be recommended for the longevity of the sights especially if they have a tritium vial. Good thing is if you mar up the end of one, you can cut it off with a Dremel 1/8 inch back and you're ready to start over again.

Perfect tool for what I needed
If you are installing new sights on your handgun be sure to get a set of these. They did mar the plastic sights coming off my Glock but I didn’t care as I was changing them out. They did not hurt my new metal sights at all.

Works well but only for a limited time
Works great for its intended purpose for me, which is using as a punch for sight replacement on firearms. The nylon punch's are softer than brass/metal ones so you may only get a few uses out of them but they are less likely to do any damage to your slide when replacing your sights. Good product, but a little pricey for 3 punch's IMO.
