As someone who grew up in the Big Apple in the 80's and 90's, partied at the Paradise Garage and enjoyed the city life I can appreciate the references in this book. Chocolate souffle takes you back to a time and place that was challenging but full of life and excitement. It's possible you will see yourself in some of the characters as they intimately unveil their lives to us. Trish Ahjel brings the drama with a whole lot of sass and sizzle but still manages to tackle social, economic, racial, and sexual issues at the same time. There's friendship, love and a little erotica for everyone's exotica to be found here. I was even reminded of an old trick I thought I'd left behind and that's all I will say about that! ;-)Thanks Trish. Great job for a first novel!

I really enjoyed this book and just what I needed this summer to kick back and dive into a good read. The characters are funny, bold and sometimes there are tears. The author does a really good job with the details of NYC and news worthy events in the 80's-90's and makes you feel you are there. She takes you on a ride with the characters and their lives. If you're looking for a good book to read I highly recommend. I can't wait to read the author's next book.

can get a little annoying at times
One of the main characters, Aura, can get a little annoying at times, but overall a very good read and enjoyable book! I would recommend it to anyone, and the author is a lovely woman, do support her endeavors.

A good beach read and/or on a long plane ride or subway commute. The first couple of chapters of the book are a slow read but then the action picks up. Different scenarios of single life in the 90's in a big city. A definite page turner. You will not want to put this book down and when you get close to the end of the book you do not want to stop reading. 👍🏽👍🏽

Interesting, Intriguing, Though-Provoking
What a great read! It's interesting, intriguing and deals with issues in a very thought-provoking way. The book contains all the great elements of an interesting novel, romance, pain, sexuality. I took it with me when I went on a beach vacation, and once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. I myself am a product of the 80's & 90's and so loved all the references. Although I am not of African American heritage, I could still relate to all the issues the main characters were dealing with. Excellent read!

Trish Ahjel has a beautiful eye for detail
Trish Ahjel has a beautiful eye for detail. The story is so descriptive that I felt like I was a part of the novel. As a reader, I could vividly see and feel the characters; from what they were wearing to what they were feeling. All the characters have depth and individual characteristics. I laughed with the characters and I cried with them. I especially love the "Questions" section at the end of the book. The questions are perfect for any book club discussion. Trish, great job on this fantastic novel.

It was Ok
Somewhat of a novel for a teenager. Stayed at an even paced. Not a lot of meat to the story, however it will keep you from falling asleep. It could have ended earlier. The characters are worth getting to know.😊
