MONKEYSHINE - Orangutan Puzzle [500 Pieces] // All animals appeal to us in different ways. Perhaps animals belonging to the anthropoid ape family present the strongest relatable image to most. This is particularly evident in this puzzle portrayal of two young orangutans because of their human-like demeanor and facial characteristics. In fact, the name orangutan means man of the forest. They are natives of the jungles of Borneo and Sumatra. // Orangutans are tailless, navigate on the ground in a semi-erect position, and dine largely on forest vegetation. Much of their time is spent in trees. The adult orangutan has an arm span that can reach to more than seven feet; greater by far than that of the chimp or gorilla. Yet they are about two-thirds as large as a gorilla. // At birth a baby orangutan weighs only three or four pounds, and is arm cradled at this early stage. However, the mother needs her hands for swinging through the trees so the baby soon learns to position himself on his mother’s hip while clinging tightly to her furry belly. // When he is a little older, he will wander about investigating on his own and at times be playfully annoying to the older members of his family. No doubt he too will come to be labeled “a little monketshine” in the equivalent language of his kind.
