staple remover useful, tack puller piece of junk
I just spent 2 long days removing staples from a large oversized chair I'm reupholstering. The staple remover was useful if the staples were not close to the wood. Otherwise, I needed 2 different screwdrivers - a tiny flathead to get under the staple and just bring it up, then a stronger, larger one to raise it up a bit, THEN I could use the staple remover to get it up high enough to use the pliers to pull it out if it didn't break in the process. So it is useful, and there is a skill to using it, but if the staples are flush with the wood, I found that a screwdriver was easier. There were 2 sections with lots of old, soft foam in the arms that worked really well with the tack puller. On the first section, I did about half with the screwdrivers before using the leverage of the tackpuller (so maybe half a dozen). Then on the other side I started with the tack puller and one of the prongs broke after about halfway (so another 5-6). So 10-12 uses and it was done. I tried using just the one side and it just didn't seem to work right. If I were to do another project like this, I would buy another one of these with a good reputation. It's like a little crow bar, so if the steel is solid, then it's quite handy. (remember, this broke on staples in say 1/2" foam, not thin material up against wood).I'm not saying this item is bad, I'm just saying I used my screwdrivers and pliers more than I used this for the whole project. Also, make sure you have some good padded gloves if you have a lot of staples to remove - your bruised palms will thank you later!

Now I know why I need a "real" staple puller!
The staple puller included here really works well. I wasn't sure I needed a purpose-built staple puller, as I have always had good luck with just a small screwdriver and pliers. Well now that I've used this baby I understand what it's all about! The smooth "blade" can slide under a staple without ripping the underlying fabric. It has a small beak above the blade which will come down to hold the staple just well enough that you don't get one end popping up and the other still in the chair. With this gadget both sides of the staple come out in one pull. It also has a large boxy swiveling section that appears to prevent dents to the work surface when you start levering up on the staple. Very quick and easy to use.Even if you only need to pull staples occasionally, this tool will be well worth buying.

I'm a real armature at this reopholsering stuff. I ...
I'm a real armature at this reopholsering stuff. I was trying to get those staples out with a screw driver. While it worked I have a sore hand as a result. The staple remover arrived to my rescue. Why I didn't just wait I will never know. It is still work and it is over a hundred degrees on my car port where I'm doing this but... It really works. I just go down the line a pop, pop, pop and I loosen the staple (usually only one side pops out). Then grab my long nose pliers, removing them the rest of the way. I'm done. No tacks in this project so I haven't used the tack puller.

Functional, but not the greatest.
It gets the job done, but could be a little better made. The tack puller is so-so quality and does not have much of an edge to be able to get underneath the tack heads. You have to hammer the staple remover under most staples to get them out. Although I know what the little "flipper" bar is supposed to be for, I've never seen it actually come into play after removing several thousand staples. Just the basic bar would have been enough.

not as wonderful as I hoped
Okay, not as wonderful as I hoped. The piece I'm re-doing has 8,000 staples absolutely buried in the wood. The beak part of the device is a little thick, so it doesn't slip so well under the staple. Not fast. About as cumbersome as a small screwdriver and hammer. The handle isn't too comfortable after the hundredth staple. Only 7,990 staples to go....

Works GREAT for staples left over from carpet removal.
This little tool saved me hours of work! Even though it is primarily made to remove staples from auto or furniture upholstery, it works great on staples left over from carpet and padding removal over wooden floors. Even when only one tine is pulled, you can use the moving part to grip the remaining tine, to finish pulling the staple out.

Quality Tool for a good price
The staple remover cut my work time easily in half! I am so pleased with it. Previously the staples were breaking or only partially coming out. With this staple remover the staples come out neatly and easily!I haven't used the tack remover, but would expect the same efficiency.
