This is the only book that I can find on the figurative/narrative Chilean artist Guillermo Lorca. It is most excellent in every way, from the hard cover that looks like canvas of a painting to the full color reproductions and detail on Lorca the artist. It is published in English and the book is printed in England to the highest standards of the art book making industry. Guillermo Lorca has command of figuration in what has been called "Old Masters" traditions. He was a student of the Norwegian figurative/narrative artist Ode Nerdrum. Lorca's figurative skills also show in love of animals that are as personified in the complex narrative structures of the images as the persons that inhabit the complex spaces either indoors in on the land. Many of the original paintings are huge and there are a few images of Lorca working in his studio that give a feel for the immense size of the canvases that create their "other world". There are the reproductions of the full size paintings along with close ups of the surfaces that demonstrate how sensuous Lorca is with oil paint. I am reminded of this quotation from de Kooning: "Flesh was the reason why oil paint was invented." In an age when only a few artists have "old master" command of painting the human figure, Guillermo Lorca stands out as supreme and this publication honors that!

Love the detail pictures. Wish the scope was larger...same with the book.
