I wouldn't recommend this for use in the home but, for taking on holiday so you can make yourself good quality coffee, it is an excellent idea. It is easy to pack and easy to use. You just grind the beans in the top section; they fall into the filter; you pour in hot water, and it filters into the cup below.Be aware that it will make a dent in the space in your suitcase. The cup (the part below the line in the picture) is nearly half a litre.I see that someone described it as a cheap Chinese knock-off. Looking at the listing of the other product, they do look extremely similar. The quality of this one seems to be good. The grinder has plastic components but works ok and the coffee it produces tastes good. The filter is mesh but it feels quite strong and it isn't going to take anywhere near the weight of coffee that your filter set gets at a dinner party. If you prefer paper filters there's nothing stopping you from taking a supply and putting one in the top compartment.I dismantled it to understand the mechanism for setting the coarseness. The grinding blocks themselves are made from a solid ceramic. The inner block is on a spring-loaded spindle with a square end that engages the handle and a plastic part which sets the position relative to the body. The position of the spindle and grinder is determined by a plastic screw top which presses against the spring. By tightening or untightening the screwtop, the coarseness is adjustable. The screw is quite tight against the spring and doesn't seem to drift. However, there is no mechanism for holding the position. I did notice that when you turn the screw there is a tendency for the spindle to turn. This makes it less likely that you will get drift and more difficult to adjust the coarseness, as you may have to press your fingers against the grinder to stop it turning.I was given this product free for review.
