Almost To Tulsa: The Instrumentals

For a collection of 50+ year old recordings, the sound quality is excellent! It has a booklet stuffed inside with a whole history of the Troubadours with lots of great pictures of them on the road and in the studio. The care and expertise that was put into making this CD is very apparent. As for the music, these guys are like world class jazz musicians playing country and western. For me, the song "Honey Fingers" alone is worth the price of the whole CD. And if you were ever impressed with Roy Clark speeding through "12th Street Rag", this version will blow your mind! Everything on it is great. I can't stop listening to it. Ernest Tubb was either a musical genius or the luckiest man in the world to have a band like this behind him.

I've been trying to build up a library of Leon Rhodes instrumentals and this CD gave it a big boost. All of the numbers are great. Leon's playing lead on 26 of the 36 tracks. There's a few other notable 'A' list guitar players from that era on the CD as well like Harold Bradley, Grady Martin, and Hank Garland. All of the players on this CD are on the 'A' list like Floyd Cramer and Buddy Emmons and many, many, more.

Great steel and 6-string country jazz!

One of the best instrumental albums in my huge collection. If you like world class guitar and steel guitar picking, there is no better choice than this one.

This is a super CD of instrumentals played by musicians at the top of their game. All of the old favorites (like Steel Guitar Rag)are here along with some new tunes (like Almost to Tulsa) written by members of the group in the 60s and early 70s. It is highly recommended to anyone who likes the older instrumental playing of steel and lead guitar, with superb backup.

Most of the lps these cuts are derived from are very scarce and secure boo-coo bucks in the collector's market. Its nice to see them packaged neatly in one little space. Thanks again. I'm a big steel fan and can't seem to find enough of the great stuff these days.

I had most of these cuts on several old vinyl records, and I am so glad to have them all on one CD. It is a great collection and I highly recommend this CD to anyone who loves the Texas Troubadours, Steel Guitar, Buddy Charleton, Buddy Emmons and Leon Rhodes.

Worth having if you like instrumentals. Otherwise not something that will nake you exclaim, gee, that was great.

This is collection of instrumentals by top notch swing western, country musicians. Buddy Emmons shines through out, but every single track is pure gold. Bear Records rarely misses and this time they made perfect album for true lovers of country swing. In my opinion this album should be on every serious music collector shelves.
