Cheap price and nice effect, but poor durability...
They do look very nice and provide a very nice candle effect....however I recommend them only with the following cautions.I bought 12 of these for an outside deck/porch area. They're made entirely out of very cheap plastic (except for the hanger portion which is like coat hanger metal) and after 1 season outside a third stopped working and they all looked very weathered/worn. Within 1.5 years two-thirds stopped working. Some units were sheltered outside under a covered deck/porch and some were directly exposed to the elements on porch posts and it made no difference in terms of performance/durablity. Leaving them outside also weathered the plastic to a point where it was very brittle. So when I tried to replace the batteries or adjust them they were liable to end up breaking as it all twists/snaps together. If you're meticulous about bringing them in out of the rain/snow or have them in a sheltered area, you may get slightly better performance/durability. I ended up replacing them with a better quality albeit higher priced version from a competitor. So, for the price, you will get about a year's enjoyment from them and if you're ok with that I'd recommend them.

Good electronics and build design
I just got one of these, so can't speak for its endurance yet. The color really is amber, the flicker circuitry looks authentic, the shepherd's hook is metal not plastic so it won't bow as much. They are plastic and obviously quickly assembled as most solar lamps are. But they are only hot glued in one spot (circuit board) and all the electronics is in the top half of the unit (no wires running to bottom half) which are two large points of failure with another solar light I've owned a long time. They only have a single battery so when they run all the way down one battery doesn't reverse charge the other. That's the other point of failure. In full sun the charge current was about 60mA. This is outstanding (normal is 45mA) and why it literally runs all night long. Still going full brightness at 5 am on just sun charge. I haven't measured in cloudy weather but I imagine it will do poorly as you have to make a choice between the number of cells (voltage) and strength of each cell (current) for the size of the solar cell.My wife doesn't like the Asian style but other than that they are perfect at $13 (price w/shipping went up a little since I ordered).** Dec 2013 update **I had given this to a neighbor and it is still running in their front yard. The plastic windows have completely fogged but I see the LED going late at night. I don't know if they've changed the battery but I'm still impressed with it.

I like them a lot
bought these as smaller accent lights to a larger one I use on the outdoor dining table. I don't use the stakes, rather sat them on the side tables between my rockers and chaise lounge. I like them a lot. Not enough light to read by or anything, rather an interesting accent. They do flicker and look like a real candle. They are all plastic but have a high quality look. The only thing I thought I would not like, doesn't bother me and is not noticeable. The LED does not come up inside the candle rather is lowered down from the top solar panel on a wire into the candle. Looks like a 3 inch long wick sticking out of the candle. At night you don't see it at all and during the day they are so low the angle prevents you from seeing it so very reasonable for the cheaper trade off. Would recommend them for sure as accent lights especially sitting on tables or hanging from hooks or brackets.

looks fine standing 20-30 feet away
Definitely more ornamental than functional; although the lamps charge well, and stay lit right up until morning, unfortunately they give off very little to no light whatsoever. Plus, everything is plastic; looks fine standing 20-30 feet away, but once you're within 10 feet or so, you can tell these are low quality imitations. My wife said they'd be good for younger, romantic couple wanting to set a mood. I can't recall that far back, I'm 67. BUT, the price was right; I'm keeping them, but I needed a bit more classy and a heck more light.

Lights good, hooks bad
The lights are great - soft flickering amber on second season. But trash the holders, they bend and break very quickly and invest in some one piece 36" shepherd hooks that will hold them securely. This problem has been repeatedly noted in the reviews, but the manufacturer is not about to change them as 4 pieces can pack efficiently in the square box; but they might as well not be included as they are so bad. 3 stars because of this additional cost.

Flicker the do..
they do look a bit like flikkering candles. They dont give off a whole lot of light..they are yellow in color which is nice...The post is metal and strong except then like almost all similiar lights they give a plastic stake on the bottom that will break easily..Design wise for aesthics, give them a like it four stars... uslefulness for lighting...3 stars.

work fine in terms of the light they emit (a soft ...
I purchased these solar lights in June. We have tried many such lights over the years to light our walkway and the flower garden in our yard and they have never properly worked after a couple months' time. These, so far, work fine in terms of the light they emit (a soft candle like glow), however, the shepherd's hook is of the poorest quality I can imagine. The slightest touch of the hook once assembled causes the parts to break apart and therefore be rendered useless. The first one I assembled and proceeded to place into the soil broke apart just by me trying to firmly push it into the soil, without any crazy amount of pressure applied. Nevertheless, I installed the remaining four even more carefully so as to avoid breakage. Well, over the course of a week, we would enter our backyard to find a different one broken each day, for what I reason I still don't know. The rods that fit one into the other are so poorly made that they just break apart standing there in the ground.
