Instead it is more like graphic novel weight. Way too costly for the formatting. Bought it as a gift and was disappointed when it arrived. Content is good but wow.

Quinn is a great guy and well respected in the collodion world. I spent nearly a year amassing equipment and chemistry to begin making wet plates. Although I felt very confident after scouring the internet for articles and videos, this text really helped me. I read it cover to cover a few times over and when I decided I was ready to make my first plate everything came out exactly as I had hoped. If you join a collodion forum you'll see people's "first plates" and you can tell who decided to invest in a proper manual and who didn't. Don't make the mistake of trying to wing it, this is a small price to pay for a text that will save you a great deal of money if you happen to make mishaps with your chemistry, your silver bath, or any other types of contamination that can ruin your art and cost you hundreds of dollars. The writer is self-absorbed, but he eventually gets it together and delivers the goods on wet plate methods. I've read the other books on this and Jacobson goes into more depth with more useful info.Clearly the writer has a wild hair. Why in a how-to book on photography does he present a series of odd photographs of glum looking homosexual men?

Exactly what I ordered. Used but good condition. Quality of the 2013 printing is great.

Covers a lot of different wet plate technology, but not really well written. I'm a pretty technical guy, yet found it hard to follow in several places. Save your money and do your research online & via youtube.

Oh my goodness...what a great book. It contains some really great information for getting started in Wet Plate and an essentials list in the back along with where to buy. Quinn Jacobson is an amazing photographer so the images included are stunning.

This book really helped a lot; it explains everything about the wet plate process in clear, simple language. A very thorough book and an excellent reference.

I purchased this book after a recommendation from a wet plate workshop that I had done. Really good book which covers everything that I had done in the workshop. I'm sure I will continue keep using it as a reference guide, especially when things go wrong. My only disappointment was the mention of the videos all of the time. I searched the book for some code or url that I might have received to access the videos and couldn't find any. So I searched the studioq website and found that I have to pay an additional $25 to access them, I think that the video access should be included considering the cost of the book..

Great guide that is current, not like most others that seem to have a fairly outdated writing style. Overall it is fairly pricey but well worth it considering how affordable the option video supplements are. Would and have recommended to a friend.

Disappointing - could be documented much better especially around troubleshooting for the novice. Text is quite repetitive and references external videos
