Shout! Factory is releasing a live performance of Kiko performed in it's entirety, on DVD and a 2-disc Blu-ray/CD set. KIKO LIVE captures their February 24, 2006, performance at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA. Never before released or broadcast, KIKO LIVE also contains interviews with the band and others involved in the making of the studio album.

Stop talking and play music!
GREAT music, but it's SO disruptive and self-indulgent to put these vignettes of them talking about their music before they play each song. I'll watch a concert every day while I'm working. I'll watch a documentary ONCE. Disappointing.

Fantastic
This 2006 concert bluray has been criticized by past reviewers. Well, I’ve had this disc 10 years and playing it through a Sonos Arc sound bar with rear speakers and a sub with a Sony 55 inch 4K tv is like being in the room with the band. Guys, it’s the equipment that makes this concert come to life. Fabulous audio/video. Buy it!!

Worth getting whether or not you have the original album release
Los Lobos are honest and true. Good players who can pull off the recreation of an album with fairly complex textures. This video documents a special show dedicated to the presentation of ALL of the music from KIKO in its entirety. The band was playijng in San Diego, and that meant they could truck down some specialty instruments from their home base in East L.A. This is important, as the diverse musical textures on KIKO make it hard to reproduce onstage w/o an arsenal of instruments. I'm happy to say that the band does re-interpretatoin here and there, so it's not just a re-creation of the original; they jam at several opportunities, and the results are great. David Hidalgo is one of America's best guitarists, esp. in the root-music category. But all members have brought their A-game: they sound fresh and inspired. The DVD gives you the option of playing an entire presentation of songs from the show with short interview segments interspersed, or if you've heard the interviews enough, or don't want talking to slow the pace, then you opt to hear the concert numbers only. Nice feature. Also, really nice to see/hear the acoustic bonus tracks, done with the aid of trad Mexican players. KIKO Live is an excellent collection of material played by great musicians with passion and precision, the same guys (for the most part) who played this music 14 years before this 2006 re-visit.

Outstanding!
If you are a Los Lobos fan of a Kiko fan this is an absolute must have. Just buy it.I'm not sure what the negative reviewer is talking about. The BD is well produced, the editing is very watchable with no quick cuts, shaky cam or ultra close-ups as is fashionable these days. The DTS 5.1 mix is a very good, balanced mix that sounds great on my system. The video is good. Maybe not reference quality but good enough. The album is preformed in it's entirety and Los Lobos does an outstanding job recreating the studio album on stage. The songs are very true to the originals while some get stretched out a bit and extended. David Hidalgo has been one of my favorite guitarists for some time and this concert does nothing to change that image for me. He really lays it down in several songs and continues to impress. Really, the whole band does an excellent job. Cougar Estrada on the drums is outstanding. The show can be viewed as the concert only or the concert with interviews in between the songs. I choose to watch the interviews on the first viewing and found them interesting and insightful.

Inspired Performance of a Gem
I bought this DVD because I am a Los Lobos fan (I think David Hidalgo is one of the most underrated performers in rock), and I like the album KIKO. But I wasn't really expecting too much, thinking that it might not be as dynamic as some Lobos performances. Turns out I was totally wrong--this DVD catches the boys on a night when they're all "bringing it," and Hidalgo in particular stands out. While all of the players have great moments, there are several instances where Hidalgo just amazes everyone--I even get the feeling that the rest of the band is joining us in admiring Mr. Hidalgo's stellar musicianship. In short, I believe any fan of good rock'n'roll will want to see this, but if you are a Los Lobos fan, you definitely do not want to miss it. Incidentally, I saw them a few nights before this was filmed, but the performance captured here (in San Diego, I believe) is even better than what I was lucky enough to see.

A Wonderful Musical Experience!
I'm not sure what blu ray the others watched, but this performance of Kiko is amazing. Kiko in my opinion is Los Lobos at their best and they are at their best in recreating it live in concert. David Hidalgo is a great guitarist and really shines. They get the sounds of each wonderful song, using harp, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, sax, keyboards and traditional Mexican instruments. Enrique Gonzalez on drums and percussion almost steals the show. He is that good.I liked the behind the scene stories of the recording and of the band's history that were interspersed between the musical numbers. And the three bonus songs are a lot of fun.Bottom line; if you love Kiko, you will love this album.

Disappointing audio
This is my favorite Los Lobos album. Great performance but sound is disappointing.1- The center channel is mixed way too low. I have to crank up my center +10db for a reasonable balance.2- harsh sounding recording with too much of the room mixed in. Poor venue sound-wise or mixer doesn't understand surround.3- Berlin's sax is mixed way too low, have to strain to hear him even when he solos.I have a reference system in a well treated room. I have double checked other blurays and they sound fine, so no system issues.I will keep it thought, music is still worthwhile.

Los Lobos Kiki goes far beyond Latin music
This is a wonderful documentary about Los Lobos and the making of Kiko. The music is great. If you’re a Los Lobos fan it’s a must see. If you’re not a fan check it out. It may open your eyes and ears to a band that has been together since they were kids in high school.

Overdriven
I didn’t find the sound quality anything memorable.Meh at best.To listen to the entire recording is cacophonic.

[Blu-ray+CD]
