Useless product.
This product is useless. It cannot be activated. The website is not available and the phone number is out of service. I cannot return it as I am a cancer patient in active treatment with a severely I'll spouse. I resent having to pay shipping costs as well.

Great Peace of Mind
I am now in my late eighty's and living alone. I feel the need for some way to summon help if I should feel dizzy or fall or have some emergency. I have looked at the usual alert systems that work through your local phone system. They are very good when you are in your home or yard. However, I drive a lot in my area and sometimes go on longer trips. The usual systems would be useless when I am driving or out of town. The Securus GPS system is one of very few systems that give you coverage in or away from the home. Here are my comments after using the device for 3 weeks. First the cost is less than other systems. I have tested the emergency button several times and got an immediate response. I can talk and clearly hear right through the device There is also an app for Apple devices that shows you where the device is (within 50 yards or so). It also tells you the battery charge and whether you are on line with HQ.and shows your position on a map. There is also a similar app for Android devices, but it always says you cannot be connected. That is one reason I did not give the unit 5 stars. One other minor feature is that the company claims that the battery lasts a week. My battery is dead after 3 or 4days. This is no big deal since it is easy to charge for 2 hours. They also send you an email message to a cellphone when your battery is low. The company warns that people with pacemakers should not use the enclosed neck strap. I had my unit with me when I went for a checkup on my pacemaker. The doctor told me to place the securus unit right on the pacemaker while he observed on a screen. It did not affect the pacemaker one iota and it did not affect the alert unit. So I now always wear the unit around my neck. I have not had an emergency, but so far I am delighted with my unit. Incidentally, the company has very nice people who help you set up the unit for the first time.

Unit itself was certainly cheap. But monthly service fees were 1/3 higher than other similar units. Gave it away to a couple others to evaluate related to their needs and expense.

Deceptive pictures
I am thoroughly disatisfied as the pictures of attachment of the device are simply faked. There is a 2.5 inch connecting string between the device and the clip for the clothes attachment and or lanyard. Thus the entire unit extends five inches down from whatever you attach it to. The pictures are totally deceptive.

Comparison to other mobile help buttons
I work for a distributor of medical alarm devices. We offer several mobile medical alert devices as well as traditional home phone based equipment. The eCare is our go-to mobile medical alert. The battery life is far longer than any other devices like this (can be up to 4 days in areas with 4-5 bars of T-mobile service), and the eCare is the most durable bar none (in terms of drops, exposure to water, getting left outdoors, and general wear-and-tear). The call center is always polite and responsive, and the online tools will do a GPS locate on the device any time you wish. The online tools are also very easy to use and a show the caregiver (or user) the last date/time of when the device checked in and it's remaining battery life. There is currently no other device that offers these options that I know of. You can also set up the device to send texts or emails when the battery gets low. When the day comes my own parents are in need of a device like this, I would not hesitate to get them this unit. Our company is not affiliated with Amazon or Securus in any way - we are a distributor for Securus, but we also carry many other companies' alarm products. In my 4-year tenure here I have seen a lot of alarm equipment that promises many things - but most of it doesn't really work reliably when it comes down to ease-of-use for seniors or disabled folks. The only complaint I have about the eCare is that the power button is very difficult for anybody with a visual impairment to find and use (if the unit should happen to shut itself off when the battery dies).
