Some natural relief has been found
Some relief from my headaches was found immediately after using this. I was hit in multiple car accidents so suffered a lot of whiplash. After those, I developed regular migraine episodes. I also work on computers all day and can come home with a sore neck. Since I figured the neck muscles may be part of the cause my headaches, I thought I would try this. There isn't much in the way of directions, and am still not sure if I am using perfectly correctly, but I find if I take a lot of time moving my neck to all positions on it and keeping it there for a while, it can relieve some of my headaches before they get so bad that I need to take medication. This was my main goal in this - not a cure all but a way to reduce the amount of drugs I take for headaches and give me some support between other treatments such as professional massage or using a vibrating massager I have with a long curved handle I can reach my back and neck with.My headaches occur less often and are less severe. At my last appointment with my neurologist, I mentioned this and was able to discontinue painful shots of xeomin(botox) for the first time in a year.Pro's: relatively cheap, simple to use, durable(nothing to break)Con's: poor directions - require you to figure out what works best for you

Won't work for "normal" tight muscles
Took this to my physical therapist to take a look at for my chronic migraines. It wasn't releasing any tension. She said it won't hit the spots it's intended to unless you are so ridiculously out of place. Like, visibly hunched way over. I can use it and see if it helps, but I have to position myself on it differently and rock my head back and forth. So someone like me with eternally tight muscles in the back of my neck, I'd pass. There is no gradual release because your head already fully rests in the cradle. Someone in an extreme state, maybe give it a try if you're willing to gamble.

Healing Ferocious Chronic Pain
Occipital pain disrupted my life for the last four months. I took powerful prescribed muscle relaxants, tried a range of new cervical pillows, took anti-inflammatories, tried every kind of stretching and massage and ultimately resigned myself to an unknown future of misery. I love Amazon's suggestion of related items, which is how I discovered this traction headrest. Reading through the reviews I could see that some people didn't follow the instructions but that based on its design, it could be just the right thing. I love the posting of reviews on Amazon, which helps so much, not just with deciding on a purchase but, as in this case, solving a serious problem. With Amazon Prime, it was delivered on a Sunday. Love that Amazon! I was awaiting it from moment to moment and tore it out of the box when it arrived. I read the instructions and tried it immediately. The effect was profound just after 15 minutes. For the first time in four months, I had full range of motion. The pain was also drastically reduced. I used it three more times on the day of arrival, each time feeling better. My one complaint is that the instructions don't give enough detail about how to position it, and the position is critical. The fulcrum must press on a particular part of the neck. Finding the right place is difficult. I really had to experiment and still am not sure when I am helping and when I might be risking injury. They have a photo of a girl with her pony tail stuffed into the hammock, which I am sure is the exactly wrong way to use this. They really should show different types of people with a variety of neck and head shapes in illustration or photo, and show how to position it correctly. The whole reason this works when ordinary stretching cannot is because of the exact site of pressure on the muscle. In addition to using this, I have some physical therapy exercises and anti-inflammatories that I will continue to use while I heal. The critical thing missing in my healing has been this traction device. Thank you, Amazon. How incredible that I could solve this problem at the computer and waiting for a parcel to come on a Sunday. Thanks to all who post reviews.

Yes, it really works. I love it.
I have really bad migraines and I also grind my teeth REALLY bad in my sleep. I have a professional mouth guard but the problem is that it's still a lot of pressure on your face. I had a really bad night's sleep and woke up at one point apparently really mashing down on my jaw. So I woke up this morning feeling that familiar "uh oh. I better have lots of caffeine and eat some starches and try to prevent this migraine." I had someone return my call requesting an appointment and I could have gone today at 1:30 but I literally was afraid of a migraine. I laid in bed and thought "my neck is sore... If I could just sink into these pillows....." And I remembered that I had the headache hammock under my bed.I have to honestly say that I was like "what is this thirty dollar piece of rubber going to do?" But who wouldn't try it... And I did.You lay your head on it for a few moments and apply pressure (gravity does it for you. You just lay there) and then turn and do each side of your head. When I get a headache it typically starts at the base of my skull and then settles in one temple or another and I actually have to lay on the side that hurts (like I'm applying pressure) so I did the back, then the right and then I got to the left. My pain is in the left and almost always is. When I laid my head down at first it hurt, like if you step on something. It was like... There was something there.. I don't know how else to explain it. I removed my head but it immediately felt better. I laid it back down and it only felt better and better after that.My neck still feels a bit stiff, which is a side effect of medical treatment I receive and grinding my teeth but the point is.... OMG!!! This thirty dollar thing works!!!!! If you have migraines get this. If you know someone who does, buy it for them as a gift.I have wonderful health insurance and am under the treatment of a general physician and a neurologist. I felt pain and had a headache coming on and this thing worked. It worked.

Maybe helpful for mild tension, but does't help migraines.
Didn't find this effective at all. Doesn't really provide traction - more of a pressure point along the base of skull.
