Helpful for Finding Ultrasound Sources
Seems to work well. Helped me discover several sources of significant ultrasound in my home - a vacuum battery charger and a refrigerator water dispenser were major culprits. I imagine such devices have significant health ramifications for humans, since introductory psychology holds that the body can react to things it can't perceive. Pets are also able to perceive some of what we humans define as ultrasound, so identifying and removing such things from your home might make your pets happier and healthier, too. The manual included with the device is very well-written and educational on multiple aspects of science. The device is easy to assemble. It's very inexpensive. I highly recommend this item.

Fun Fun Fun
This was fun to assemble. Good instructions and simple to understand. Even know you don’t have to solder anything, it should say you need some glue. It boast nothing is needed. But you need to glue the microphone to the box. I also found the inside speak holder was not glued well enough to hold the speaker. It came off in shipping, so I glued it back on. Simple flaws. It’s a cool little device and is worth the buy.

Can't beat the Price, Delivery & Functionality!
For quite some time, around the basement, attic & garage, I had some of those "Pest Repellers" that use ultrasonic sound to repel rodents, bats, insects, etc. I was looking for a way to determine if the devices were actually functioning, since the high frequency sound is well beyond human hearing. This ("bare bones--but NOT A TOY") Kit took about 5 minutes to assemble, mainly plug-in connections--turn it on, play with the volume & frequency adjustments to "tune" it, and go test your ultrasonic systems! I am discovering which of my repellers are actually working (my most expensive repeller was not!), how strong their signals are, and the dispersion patterns of the signals in the spaces where the repellers are placed (I haven't had a chance to detect any Bats yet). O.K, the small box the kit comes in serves as the chassis for the electronics, but it's functional--I thought about putting it in a waterproof box and taking it to the beach to listen for dolphins, porpoises or submarines. Just don't throw it in your toolbox or sit on it. It works--I like it--I wish I had found it sooner--and I'll buy it again! It would also make a good Halloween party favor for anyone 14 years and older, if they're into detecting Bats, ultrasonic signals or mechanical noises from high pressure leaks in A/C or water systems, etc.

Haynes Bat detector
Works good--plan on putting in a project box.

Expect a cardboard enclosure. Assembled with ease, but only a tiny 'pop' is heard when powered on.
The instructions are 'super easy' but mine never worked for me! Nothing on troubleshooting in the manual and even less online. I tried another (new) battery, but all I ever hear is a 'tiny pop' as the Detector is switched ON? I was going to buy and try a NEW ultrasonic receive sensor from AMAZON, but it must be a 'super wideband' type and I am not willing to doubt it's "bandwidth" or it's sensitivity. I give up... Back it goes as a "Fail".

More a gimmick
It is disappointingly flimsy cardboard. We tried it with our rats and outside with bats, but it did not do much to make their sounds more audible to us. We really only found occasion to use it a few times before putting it aside.

Good for making ultrasonics audible
My dog has developed a hyper sensitivity to high pitched noises. I recently acquired a bunch of Zigbee smart outlets, but whenever they would turn on it seemed the dog couldn't leave the room fast enough. This bat detector helped me to confirm the outlets are emitting ultrasonics, so I'll pack them away for as long as ultrasonics are a problem.

Batty for this bat detector!
If you like bats and you want to be able to listen to them echo locate, but you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg… thus IS the product you need! This kit was very easy to assemble, with no electronics knowledge or soldering required. It doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles or the durability that significantly more expense units have, but for a casual hobbyist it provides and inexpensive way to add another level of enjoyment to bat watching. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because they need to incorporate a way to secure the 9v battery inside the unit so it doesn’t slide around. I am very happy with this purchase. 🦇

Funktioniert
Klappt prima.

Very easy to build
It took me less than 5 minutes total build, good starter kit, its all plug together assembly, no soldering but seems to work well, needs 9 volt battery. Update (10 Aug 2021), i finally heard the bats around 9 pm just before dark, its very loud and clear, i wish i could give this 10 stars, the frequency dial was set to over half way, now thinking of fitting an external pickup transducer and mains power so i know when to look outside, there is no annoying fuzz when there is no bats, 3.5mm jack socket for pickup, screened two core cable, 9volt mains adapter to a socket
