One happy lunch lady
Wasn't up to my expectations. I thought it would read much quicker I work in a lunchroom and I have to take quick temps. It didn't work as quick as I thought it would.

Thermometer
Well we are very disappointed with this product and if we had our paper work we would return it as it worked a few times and is now broken and can't be fixed.

The Old 3519 Thermometer is Spinning in its Meat Grave
I have an older model of the 3519 meat thermometer made by TruTemp which has now been rebranded Taylor on the packing. My old model 3519 was a real workhorse that gave me many fine years of service until it recently died on me when I wentto change the battery. For the small price I paid for the original, having it break during battery replacement was not unexpected due to thefact it had been riden hard and put away wet on more occasions than I can remember. When I went out looking for a replacement thermometer I decided I would just replace it with the exact samemodel and enjoy 5-7 more years of use.Of course that was wishful thinking on my part expecting that the "exact" same model of thermometer existedso many years later.Imagine my surprise and delight when I found the "new and improved" 3519 on the store shelf at Target andpicked one up for my grilling session tonight. When I got home and opened the package, to my dismay I came to the realization the new 3519 is kind ofan imitation of the original - stripped of all of its thoughtfully designed buttons, aluminum clip and cover.Trying to ignore my feeling of being duped, I decided to fire up the thermometer to see if it worked like myold trusty friend. After pushing the "on" button 4-5 times the display weakly turned on and read the ambient room temperatureaccurately but that was all that worked. The F/C button does not register any input and the hold button doesn't work either. And to top it off, I can't getthe unit to turn off by pushing the power button (that's a useful new feature you added Taylor, I mean who wantsto turn off their thermometer when their done to save the battery...not me!!!).Wow! Great job TruTemp/Taylor on totally f'ing up a great product by making an inferior piece junk - you'remanagement team should be very proud of the 25 cents you saved using sub-par materials and switches!!!!I would be embarassed to have my company logo on this product, it's a total disgrace.I wouldn't take one of these for free if they were handing them out and paying me the $12.95.

Not sure if I believe those temperature ranges
I mean, its lower limit is -40C and -40°F, but it has two upper limits at 450°F and 230C...this doesn't seem quite right.(Then again, my religion forbids my multiplying or dividing any number by 1.8 or adding ±32 to it, unless I don't really know what 'adultery' means...I'll ask my wife's boyfriend, the Pastor, if he's sure he got it right that one time he explained it to me.)

Can't Change the Battery
This was OK at first. Then it started working inconsistently, so I decided to try a fresh battery. Turns out that I can't get the battery compartment cover off. It's marked, so I know I'm twisting in the right direction, but it will not budge. I tried looking on the Tru Temp website for the manual to see whether there's some trick to removing the cover, and it turns out that the link to the manual is broken. So, don't bother with this product. If you can't chnage a dead battery, it's not worth the money.

Super slow read times
Super slow read times. Goes up in half degree increments....takes a good 30 seconds to full minute to get a read. Not usefull when working on a hot grill and need fast read times.

Excellent for purpose designed
I came back after years of use of this thermo to look for replacement battery info and noticed the negative reviews. I think the negatives are not entirely warranted. For example, the complaint on use only for thick meats. If one had looked at several sale sites before purchase in order to get a complete picture of a product, as I find necessary to do - on one of them even today it clearly states that probe must be used at a depth of one inch or greater. One example of my use is that I use it to get proper temp for creaming butter for baking and stick probe into end of butter stick and it has worked well. The other talks about Hold button - the complaint is that HOLD button didn't stabilize reading - the HOLD button is solely for purpose of extending the reading i.e. stopping display from going blank to conserve battery power. It wasn't meant to stabilize the temp if that is what reviewer meant. I believe for price it is an excellent device for its intended use. I purchase much more expensive devices for the more critical cooking or baking methods i.e. other than making a quick check to be able to adjust timing or temperature.

Love it
I bought one of these thermometers and use it every time I grill.I grill about 5 days a week on my Traeger Pellet Grill. It's so great because I can check each piece of meat very quickly and close the lid quicker. It's a little spendy but it works great.
