Product Description Quicksilver Messenger Service (sometimes credited as simply Quicksilver) is an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco. They were most famous for their biggest hit, the single "Fresh Air" (from the album Just for Love), which reached #49 in 1970. Quicksilver Messenger Service gained wide popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area and through their recordings, with psychedelic rock enthusiasts around the globe, and several of their albums ranked in the Top 30 of the Billboard Pop charts. Though not as commercially successful as contemporaries Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver was integral to the beginnings of their genre. Review One of the earliest live recordings of the quintessential San Francisco psychedelic jam band, the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service!Features original vocalist Jim Murray alongside the classic Cipollina-Duncan-Freiberg-Elmore quartet performing their trademark tunes plus rare numbers such as Walkin Blues and All Night Worker! --Cleopatra Records

Totally enjoy
This Quicksilver release is like a nice quality bootleg live LP. The vinyl quality is better than most new vinyl these days. I own several Purple Pyramid releases, only one of them is warped with no other issues. Overall great value in my opinion.

Not a bad recording although the vocals are loud in relation to the music. At this point QSM had not yet really developed their jam skills - at least not on this recording.Great historical account of a great band on the journey to finding their sound.

Quicksilver Messenger Service - 'Live In San Jose - September 1966' (Purple Pyramid)
Sound quality - for the most part here is pretty good. Do keep in mind that during this QMS gig, the band apparently encountered some equipment issues. Lately, I've noticed that the Cleopatra / Purple Pyramid label is (again) releasing a whole lot of must-own titles and this CD is by no means an exception. Tracks here that managed to lure me in were - the first two songs "All Night Worker" and "Walkin' Blues" that certainly get this live gig off to an out-standing start, the somewhat (?) emotional "Your Time Will Come", the nine-minute blues standard "Smokestack Lightning", their foot-stomping cover of Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man", "Codine" and the twelve-minute well-played "The Fool". Couple of other recent live QMS discs out now on Purple Pyramid you might want to also check out - 'Live At The Winterland Ballroom 1973', 'Fillmore Auditorium - Nov. 5, 1966' and 'Stony Brook College, 1970'. Duration: 69:08. Essential.

Does this 1966 recording have 1968 recored songs included?
This is the review for the digital auto rip because I am still waiting for the Vinyl copy - arriving soon!I can only give this 3 stars because I'm a bit confused. I agree that the sound is good and all that can be expected from a 1966 (perhaps ad hoc) recording. Also hearing Jim Murray is fantastic and the early QMS (more bluesy early) sound. My concern is this; at least "Acapulco Gold and Silver", "Codine" and "The Fool" sound very similar to the QMS Live at Filmore June 7 1968 recording. In fact on the introduction to "Acapulco Gold and Silver" a reference is made to their recent Album….how can that be?Am I missing something here……I assume this will be a double album - so 5 star for the 1966 recordings, as for the re-packaged songs - I hope I am wrong.

Live in San Jose 1966
