In Sherwood's version, a rather wooden, inept bishop and his lonely wife unknowingly take into their lives a heaven-sent angel who aids the former and ends up falling in love with the latter. In this unnecessary update, an inner-city preacher (Courtney B. Vance) and his estranged spouse (Whitney Houston) are visited by a celestial goof (Denzel Washington), whose unsolicited offer of help is enough to galvanize Vance's character to fix his own problems. What that means is this: by the second act, there's no reason to have Washington's angel in the story. Even his infatuation with the missus isn't enough to warrant his hanging around this movie; the change is a colossal blunder by director Penny Marshall. Vance ends up stealing the film from Washington, but it's a Pyrrhic victory; for the most part this movie just seems like a series of random scenes between opportunities for Houston to belt out songs. --Tom Keogh

Needs serious editing
The Bishops Wife is one of my favorite movies. Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors. Jamil Nasser (cameo) is one of my favorite bass players, played with Ahmad Jamal, my all time fav jazz artist. The child actors were adorable.So 5 stars, right? No.Really should rank it 3 stars, but I just can't do that to Denzel Washington.The movie has some great scenes, could have been the perfect remake, but it was clunky, way too long, average script, and a vehicle for a Whitney Houston concert. My guess is that she made it a contractual issue to basically take over the movie or she wouldn't be in it.At a certain point I just left it on and went in the other room.

Wonderful movie!
I bought this DVD for myself because I think the movie is very uplifting and I love the music in this movie. You can’t go wrong with Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston! The DVD was received right away and it was packaged very carefully. I’m so glad that I was able to find this movie!

Favorite Christmas movie
Love everything about this film...story line, characters, music, of course Whitney's voice. Watch it anytime of the year for a great dose of "feel good".

So-so
The Preacher's Wife just seems to be a showcase for Whitney Houston. Even Denzel's acting is subpar. The original movie, The Bishop's Wife, is so much better. Cary Grant and David Niven are both stand outs in that movie.

A Christmas Must Watch
I love this movie - it’s a Christmas mist watch every year. So much Chemistry between Witney and Denzel (who is absolutely an angel!). Really gets you in the feels and reminds you how amazing Witney really was. Watch it, you will love it. ♥️

'A Very Good Yet Inspiring Movie Starring Actress Whitney Houston!'
The movie is very good as well as the actors and actresses. Actress Whitney Houston is good as Julia, actors Courtney B. Vance, Denzel Washington and Gregory Hines are also good as well as actresses Jenifer Lewis and Cissy Houston and singer Lionel Richie. I laughed and cried throughout the movie and it was very inspiring. Whitney was great singing Gospel songs and what a wonderful voice she had! Overall, a very good movie for the entire family. REST IN POWER to the following actors and actresses: Ms. Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963-February 11, 2012); Mr. Gregory Oliver Hines (February 14, 1946-August 9, 2003); Ms. Penny Marshall (October 15, 1942 (1943?)-December 14, 2018): 'You all may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.'

Un film molto gradevole.
Il dvd è arrivato puntuale. È stato un ottimo e conveniente acquisto considerando che in Italia è difficile da reperire, ma vi è tra le tante opzioni di doppiaggio e sottotitoli anche in italiano. È un film che consiglio se amate Whitney Houston, la sua musica e anche la sua breve carriera anche come attrice ! Voto 10 !
