Keeps my culture alive!
This is my childhood in a cookbook. I don’t mind that it doesn’t have a lot of pictures! Instructions are clear!

mother-in-law
I would like to review this book, after exchanging emails with an Armenian blogger connected to the authors, but when the book arrived I gave it to my mother-in-law (Musa Dagh descendent, terrific cook) and forgot to take it back. I will have to remember next time we are over for dinner (frequent, but I am absentminded).Armenian food can be pretty terrific. The Musa Daghers also have a proud history, that was the reason I did not hesitate a moment to order this, hoping to learn a little more about that history. My wife looked at the preface (history part) before we took it to my mother-in-law, so I missed that opportunity too.Pretty sad, huh? But this book is sure to have a lot of great recipes. I'll check back later. Stay tuned.

decent
This is a paperback smaller sized book so don't expect a big cookbook. I am middle eastern and familiar with Armenian cooking. The book covers basic recipes, so if you already are familiar with those it's a little useless. No pictures except a few black and white poor quality ones. A lot of the recipes are "do the recipe on page 11 but add this" so aren't really unique. Some were stuff you just never cook outside the middle east like brains and stomach linings and tongue.. I did try out some basic recipes which were good, but I am a little underwhelmed.

Awesome book!
Great book, along with some famous recipes has some rare recipes, typical to the Musa Ler region only. Easy to follow, and the authors have spiced up the cooking experience with their own stories. Got it for my husband who is an outstanding Armenian cook, and he loves it so much, he keeps trying new things out. Very happy about this purchase.

The recipes are fabulous, the presentation delectable looking and the history in the back of the book mesmerizing. So well done. I HIGHLY recommend it for any adventurous cook.

Lovely book - lots of history!
This is a wonderful book but I think more so for the historical content rather than the recipes! However, if you have not attempted Armenian cooking before then this is a good book to start off with as there is a great wealth of recipes within! For me, too many of the recipes I already know from the region and Lebanon - the food of this region that spreads across this part of asia minor share many similarities and if you are accomplished in Turkish, Iranian or Leventine cuisines then you will not find anything new here at all. I was actually looking for some specific Armenian dishes which are burrowed in Armenian history and religion and was very surprised not to find them here! With that said, the historical context of this book is worth purchasing just for that alone.
