This beautiful walnut coffee table is ready to ship! It was created by taking a sustainable slab of black walnut that had a deep drying check (crack) running through the length of the slab, and allowing the wood to split into two. Once it was separated, the highly polished flat steel bases were fabricated to fit the slab along with steel stitches to brace the disconnected pieces and add interest to the piece. The steel stitching that is revealed through the table top gives the illusion that the wooden top is opening/closing. It also resembles a steel rib cage or spinal column of the build. This is an awesome table that I had a lot of fun working on! The colors and figuring in the wood are astounding and are naturally a work of art on their own. The finished coffee table has an industrial, modern, and contemporary look to it, but also a nice nod to organic nature with the deep rich black walnut top and its natural edges intact. This is a rather large and unique coffee table with finished measurements of: 67" L x 17 1/2" W (bottom) to 24 5/8" W (top) and 16" H. The slab of wood is 1 1/2" thick. The steel has been clear coated and waxed to prevent rust and the top has been flattened, sanded smooth and finished in a proprietary blend of oil and poly to protect the wood from moisture, scratches & daily usage.
