RTE's Type-C to Type-A USB 3.0 cable has spec compliant CC termination : 56kΩ pullup. Great quality SuperSpeed cable.
Hi. Benson here again, continuing my review series on legacy USB Type-C cables and adapters. This time I am reviewing RTE (Rachan T Enterprise) USB Type C Cable to USB 3.0 Type-A.According to my test using a Chromebook Pixel, this cable correctly identifies itself using the 56kΩ pullup resistor on CC. This identifies itself to the Type-C device as a "Default USB Power" source, which means that the device (my Chromebook Pixel in this case) will fall back to either BC1.2's charging levels, or to 500mA or 900mA SDP if BC1.2 is not supported. It will also support proprietary charging protocols, for example Apple's 12W iPad charging protocol, if your device supports it. My Chromebook Pixel, when attached to an Anker 5 port charging station with a dedicated "iPad" protocol port, negotiates to 2A charging using this cable.Depending on your USB Type-A charger and your device, you should be able to charge from a range of .5A to 2.4A using this cable. This cable also supports USB 3.0, meaning it has all of the wires necessary to support SuperSpeed operation. This is especially important for 12" MacBook users who want to use this cable for Target Disk Mode. TDM requires a SuperSpeed cable to work.In conclusion, RTE's offering is a well made (with spec compliant CC termination) USB 3.0 legacy cable.

This cable was ordered for my Nexus5x. I've got no complaints with the build of the cable as if feels quite solid. I've verified that this cable does provide the correct current to the phone per this post https://plus.google.com/+GeoffHoff/posts/WUVsHmXomuY.[107707.098811] dwc3 f9200000.dwc3: Avail curr from USB = 500[109371.600927] dwc3 f9200000.dwc3: Avail curr from USB = 0

Great USB-C cable, accept no substitutes! Looks good, performs very well, and approved by a Google engineer!
After reading the reviews by Benson Leung and thinking "Boy, the One Plus reversible USB-C charger is a great deal now that it went on sale!", I bought six of them with friends and coworkers to save on shipping. Then, Mr. Leung posts reviews of it, and it's a piece of crap unless you own a OnePlus Two (a good phone, btw). So, OnePlus was nice enough to refund the money based on that review information, and I used it to buy three of these. SO much better. The braided cable is very nice, looks so much better than a standard black plain ole cable. The connectors feel very solid, it charges quickly on devices that support fast USB-C charging, and all in all a very nice cable. I have one at work, one in my bag, and one plugged in at home. Zero complaints.

Broken USB-C connector out of the box
I really want to like this. I searched high and low for a USB cable that meets the following criteria: USB-A 3.0 to USB-C 3.1, 5Gbps data transfer speed, braided cable, support of up t 2.4A charging speed, 1 meter length, and Benson Leung Recommended. This fit *everything* so I was excited to find and receive it. However, the cable came to me with the USB-C end connector damaged to the point where it cannot plug into my phone (Nexus 5X) -- and believe me I tried. I am extremely disappointed and now I have to go through the process of returning it, as it's essentially junk. Not only that, some of the braiding is frayed which I normally wouldn't be bothered with too much, but combined with the bent connector makes me believe that there's no quality assurance on these products. It could be a one-off, but receiving a product that is broken out of the box is always a huge negative to me. Speaking of "box" -- this doesn't actually come shipped in one. It was just in a flimsy plastic bag. There was no protection for the cable whatsoever for shipping.I gave it two stars instead of one because if not for the major issue and one minor issue, it would be a perfect cable. But perfect works, and this doesn't. If anyone has a recommended product based off of the criteria mentioned above, please let me know and I'd rather purchase it.In photos: I placed it side by side two other USB-C cables. Top: Bridgegen (nicest connector-extruded metal); Middle: official google cable that came with 5X; bottom: RTE cable of this review. You can see how gnarled the connector is. It wouldn't go in *at all*

Destroyed my Nexus 5x
Today, when I used this wire to charge my phone, it became VERY hot, melting the plug AND the charging connection inside my phone. The phone will no longer charge and is shot. I read that you should only use OEM equipment and always scoffed at that. I guess this is why. I used it for 8 months with no problems before today.

Best Cable Hands down. Nexus 6P
cable color is awesome. Connectors are slim and full metal which gives it a strong feel. The nylon is high quality and it uses USB 3.0 for fast copy speeds unlike other brands that only use 2.0.I also love the fact that this cable does not have any branding on it so it looks like a cleaner cable. The only con is the cable plugs into the phone and feels a little loose. where other cables are more snug.

The quality is great, this is my first "braided" cable ever so ...
I obtained this thanks to the Google Engineer review that verifies this as a true compatible type c cable for my 6P. The quality is great, this is my first "braided" cable ever so i am not used to it but seems like they are just as good as plastic cables will follow up if something bad happens.

Looks and works great!
Quality cord, doesn't lose its stability after a few uses like MANY of the USB-type C cables sold on Amazon. Full standard supported, looks great as well. Bought on the great recommendation of Benson Leung, the Google employee going around testing all these cables, and all his reviews are great, and clearly this cable is the best value for a high-quality, durable cable. Superspeed is supported!
